Summary

This 2022 Mitsubishi Montero Sport in its range-topping GLS PREMIUM trim represents a highly strategic purchase for a buyer in the GCC market. With mileage that sits comfortably within the expected average for a three-year-old vehicle in this region, it has been driven just enough to settle into its mechanical peak while remaining in prime condition for its next owner. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the Middle East, ensuring maximum heat reflection during peak summer and providing the strongest possible resale value down the line. As a true body-on-frame SUV, this model stands out from modern crossovers by offering genuine desert-crossing capability without sacrificing the seven-seat practicality families require. In a market where reliability is the primary currency, this vehicle offers a level of mechanical peace of mind that few competitors can match. The single most important factor for any GCC buyer is the widespread availability of parts and the extensive service network that Mitsubishi maintains across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, making this a worry-free long-term asset.

This Car vs Other 2022 Montero Sports

When comparing this specific unit to other 2022 models currently available in the GCC, the most striking advantage is the balance of its usage and its aesthetic specification. At approximately 72,000 km, the vehicle has been utilized at a rate of 24,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the typical GCC driving pattern of long-distance highway commutes between emirates. Unlike lower-mileage city cars that may have suffered from constant stop-start wear, this vehicle's mileage suggests a history of efficient highway cruising, which is often better for the longevity of a 3.0L V6 engine. Furthermore, being finished in white—the undisputed champion of resale colors in this region—puts this unit ahead of darker-colored equivalents that tend to sit longer on the market and struggle with heat absorption. The condition of the GLS PREMIUM interior is consistently superior to lower trims found in the used market, as owners of this top-tier specification typically maintain their vehicles through authorized channels to preserve the value of the advanced tech onboard.

GLS PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GLS PREMIUM trim transforms the ownership experience from a basic utilitarian drive to a truly modern, tech-forward journey. While the base trims offer the same rugged chassis, this top-spec version adds the crucial 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a sophisticated infotainment system that supports seamless smartphone integration—a must-have for navigating the ever-changing roads of the GCC. You also gain the Power Tailgate with hands-free access, which is incredibly convenient during large grocery runs or family outings in the heat. Perhaps the most significant upgrade for the local climate is the premium leather upholstery paired with an enhanced dual-zone climate control system that features dedicated vents for all three rows, ensuring every passenger remains cool even in 50°C weather. Additionally, this trim includes the Multi-Around Monitor (360-degree camera), which is essential for maneuvering a vehicle of this size into tight mall parking spots or navigating rocky terrain off-road.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

The Montero Sport competes in a crowded segment against rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X, yet it carved out a unique niche by offering a much smoother ride and more advanced transmission technology. While the Fortuner is known for its durability, the Mitsubishi leads with its 8-speed automatic transmission, providing noticeably better fuel efficiency and quieter highway cruising compared to the 6-speed units often found in competitors. Its Super Select 4WD-II system is a standout feature that allows for full-time 4WD on dry pavement—a major safety advantage during sudden GCC rainstorms or when transitioning from asphalt to sand. The cabin also feels more contemporary than its rivals, with softer touchpoints and a more ergonomic layout that favors long-distance comfort. For those who frequently drive between cities like Dubai and Muscat, the superior cabin insulation and high-speed stability of this model make it a more refined choice for the daily commute.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating a Montero Sport in the GCC is remarkably cost-effective due to its proven 3.0L V6 powertrain which is designed to run efficiently on standard 95-octane petrol. In real-world GCC conditions, you can expect a balanced fuel consumption that rewards steady highway driving, while the 70-liter fuel tank provides ample range for cross-country trips without frequent stops. Mitsubishi’s depreciation curve is one of the shallowest in the region, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually, which is significantly better than European or American SUV alternatives. Servicing is straightforward and affordable, with authorized service centers located in almost every major city across the UAE and the wider GCC, ensuring that parts are always in stock and labor costs remain predictable. At the three-year mark, a well-maintained GCC-spec Montero Sport in white remains one of the fastest-selling vehicles in the used market, often retaining over 65% of its original value.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SUV is the 3.0-liter MIVEC V6 engine, which delivers a smooth and linear power delivery that is perfectly suited for the region's high-speed limits. While it excels on the E11 highway, its true prowess is revealed when the pavement ends. Equipped with a genuine low-range transfer case and multiple off-road modes (Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand, Rock), it can tackle deep desert dunes and steep mountain wadis with confidence. The 218 mm ground clearance is among the best in its class, allowing you to navigate obstacles that would stop a standard crossover in its tracks. The 8-speed automatic transmission is a masterpiece of engineering, keeping the engine in its optimal power band whether you are overtaking a truck on a two-lane road or crawling up a sandy incline. For families who enjoy weekend camping trips in the Liwa desert or exploring the Hajar mountains, the performance profile of this vehicle offers the perfect blend of civility and ruggedness.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GLS PREMIUM is designed to be a sanctuary from the harsh external environment of the Middle East. The three-row seating configuration is highly flexible, allowing for seven passengers or a massive flat-loading cargo area when the rear seats are stowed. Mitsubishi has specifically engineered the air conditioning system for the GCC, and it is widely regarded as one of the most powerful in the segment, capable of chilling the cabin in minutes after being parked in the sun. The insulation has been upgraded to reduce wind and road noise, which is a significant benefit during 140 km/h highway stretches. The inclusion of premium materials and power-adjustable seating ensures that long drives between the Emirates do not result in fatigue. Passengers in the second and third rows are well-catered for with dedicated air vents and charging ports, making this an ideal vehicle for large families or those who frequently host guests.

Safety

Safety is a paramount feature of the GLS PREMIUM trim, which comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active driver assistance systems. The Forward Collision Mitigation system is particularly useful in the fast-paced traffic of Dubai or Riyadh, providing an extra layer of protection against sudden stops. Blind Spot Warning and Lane Change Assist are essential tools for navigating multi-lane highways, where high-speed merging is common. The vehicle is built around Mitsubishi's Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, which effectively absorbs energy in the event of a collision to protect all seven occupants. In addition to the seven-airbag system, the electronic stability and traction control are calibrated to handle the unique challenges of sand and gravel, ensuring the vehicle remains composed even if you hit a soft patch of road. This model holds a 5-star NCAP safety rating, providing the highest level of assurance for family-oriented buyers.

The bottom line

This Montero Sport is the ideal choice for a GCC resident who needs a vehicle that can transition from a professional executive commute during the week to a serious desert explorer on the weekend. As a top-trim, GCC-spec vehicle in the region's favorite color, it represents a secure investment with a predictable cost of ownership and excellent future resale potential.
