Summary

This 2022 Subaru WRX High EyeSight represents the latest generation of the rally-bred legend, offering a sophisticated balance of performance and daily usability. As a GCC-spec model, it is built to handle the region's high temperatures with a robust cooling system and factory-tinted glass. This specific trim is highly sought after in the UAE market for its advanced safety features and the larger infotainment screen, which is a major step up from the base units. Despite the high mileage, these Boxer engines are renowned for their durability when maintained at authorized service centers across the GCC. It serves as a perfect daily driver for those who want sports car dynamics without sacrificing four-door practicality.

This Car vs Other 2022 Wrxs

At nearly 100,000 km, this WRX has seen more of the road than the average UAE example, which typically covers 20,000–25,000 km annually. However, being a white GCC-spec model ensures it remains one of the most liquid options for resale in the local market. The higher mileage is balanced by the newer VB-chassis architecture, which offers significantly better structural rigidity and refined road manners than the previous generation.

HIGH EYESIGHT vs Lower Trims

The High EyeSight trim is the premier choice for GCC buyers, adding the comprehensive EyeSight Driver Assist suite which includes adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking. Inside, it replaces the dual 7-inch screens of the base model with the impressive 11.6-inch high-resolution vertical display. Additionally, this trim features premium Ultrasuede-trimmed upholstery and a power sunroof, amenities that hold a much higher premium in the used market than the standard cloth interiors.

Wrx vs Segment Rivals

The WRX stands apart from rivals like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Honda Civic Si by offering its iconic Boxer engine layout and rally-inspired heritage. While most competitors in this segment are strictly front-wheel drive, the WRX is famous for its mechanical grip and stability on the fast-moving, multi-lane highways of Dubai and Riyadh. Its larger physical footprint compared to a standard hatchback provides better high-speed stability and more usable trunk space for family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this powertrain in GCC conditions typically averages around 11.2 L/100km, reflecting a mix of stop-start city traffic and high-speed cruising. Subaru maintains a strong authorized service presence across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with recommended oil service intervals every 10,000 km for this generation. Historically, GCC-spec Subarus retain their value well, typically depreciating at 10-12% annually, which is superior to many European performance counterparts in the region.

Performance & Capability

This generation is powered by a refined 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that delivers linear power and immediate overtaking capability on the E11 or E311. The Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) provides 30% faster upshifts than previous automatics, making it feel incredibly responsive during spirited drives. Selectable drive modes allow you to soften the dampers for city comfort or sharpen the throttle response for weekend drives through the Jebel Jais mountain passes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful air conditioning system with dedicated rear ventilation to keep all five passengers cool during peak summer. The D-shaped leather-wrapped steering wheel and sport-bolstered seats provide excellent support without being overly restrictive for long-distance commutes between Emirates. Integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensure seamless connectivity, while the cabin's improved sound insulation significantly reduces road noise at highway speeds.

Safety

Safety is the hallmark of the High EyeSight trim, featuring seven airbags and the acclaimed EyeSight camera system that acts as a second pair of eyes on the road. This includes Lane Departure Prevention and Lead Vehicle Start Alert, which are particularly helpful in heavy morning traffic. The 2022 model also benefits from a reinforced global platform, providing a high-strength body structure that has earned top safety ratings globally.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who needs a reliable, tech-forward daily driver that doesn't compromise on safety, this GCC-spec High EyeSight WRX is a smart, market-proven choice.
