Toyota Fortuner VXR GCC Specs

Highlights

• Part-time 4WD with low-range transfer case
• 279 mm maximum ground clearance
• Ventilated front seats standard

Summary

This 2022 Fortuner represents a high-specification opportunity, sitting at a mileage that is slightly below the typical GCC average for a four-year-old SUV. As the range-topping VXR trim, it features the robust 4.0L V6 engine which is the preferred choice for local buyers over the smaller four-cylinder variants for its highway overtaking ability. The white exterior is the strongest resale color in the region, helping to deflect the desert sun while ensuring the car remains highly liquid in the used market. For a GCC owner, the combination of Toyota's bulletproof reliability and the VXR's upgraded cabin makes this an ideal vehicle for both daily school runs and weekend trips to the dunes. This specific listing stands out because it offers the most powerful powertrain in the lineup with a verifiable service network that spans every corner of the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2022 Fortuners

With 83,610 km on the odometer, this car has been driven approximately 20,900 km per year, which is below the 25,000 km annual average typically seen for family SUVs in the GCC. The white exterior provides a significant advantage for local resale value and heat management compared to darker alternatives. Being a GCC-spec model, it carries the full cooling and filtration upgrades necessary for the region's climate, which is a major trust signal for second-hand buyers.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim adds essential GCC luxury features over the mid-range GXR, most notably the ventilated front seats which are a necessity during the peak summer months. It also upgrades the cabin with premium leather upholstery and a powered tailgate, alongside the 4.0L V6 engine that offers nearly 45% more torque than the entry-level 2.7L engine. Additionally, the VXR usually includes a 360-degree camera system and upgraded LED headlights, making it significantly easier to maneuver in tight city parking.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport or Nissan X-Terra, the Fortuner leads with a vastly superior resale value and a more extensive service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides excellent range for long-distance highway drives between cities, while its body-on-frame construction offers genuine durability that monocoque competitors cannot match in heavy off-road use. Toyota’s air conditioning systems are also widely regarded by GCC owners as the most effective for cooling a large 7-seat cabin quickly after being parked in the sun.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 engine typically averages around 10.4 to 12.6 L/100km depending on the balance between city traffic and highway cruising. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and Toyota's authorized service centers are available in every major city across the GCC, ensuring parts are always affordable and accessible. The Fortuner is famous for having one of the lowest depreciation rates in the SUV segment, often retaining up to 80% of its value after three years of ownership in the local market.

Performance & Capability

The V6 engine delivers a robust 235 hp and 376 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size and weight. It features a genuine part-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case and a rear differential lock, allowing it to navigate soft sand and steep dunes with ease. With 279 mm of ground clearance, it clears obstacles that would stop most soft-roaders, making it a true dual-purpose vehicle for the GCC lifestyle.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat interior is designed for family logistics, featuring a 60:40 split in the second row and a third row that stows away to create significant cargo space. Dedicated rear AC vents for all three rows ensure every passenger stays cool, even when exterior temperatures exceed 45°C. The VXR trim specifically provides a more refined experience with its leather-trimmed seats, wood-grain accents, and a modern touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the VXR includes a comprehensive suite of seven airbags, providing protection for all three rows of passengers. For highway driving, it features cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, while off-road safety is managed by Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and an advanced Traction Control system. These active systems are specifically tuned to maintain composure on both high-speed tarmac and loose gravel surfaces common in the UAE's rural areas.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who needs a dependable 7-seater that can handle the commute during the week and the desert on the weekend, this VXR-trim Fortuner is the benchmark choice. Its combination of a V6 engine, top-tier features, and a strong resale color makes it a highly sensible and secure investment in the local used market.
