Toyota Land Cruiser VXR

Highlights

• 409 hp from a 3.5L twin-turbo V6
• Multi-Terrain Select with Crawl Control
• 3,500 kg braked towing capacity

Summary

This 4-year-old Land Cruiser VXR sits at a compelling value point, offering the high-output twin-turbo engine that replaced the old V8 with significantly more torque. White remains the most sought-after resale color in the GCC, ensuring this vehicle will likely hold its value better than almost any rival in the segment. With 96,000 km, it has been driven exactly in line with the regional average for a premium SUV, suggesting it has spent its life on well-maintained highways rather than in heavy stop-start traffic. As the flagship VXR trim, it provides the full suite of luxury tech that makes long desert crossings or inter-emirate commutes effortless. For a GCC buyer, this represents the safest possible investment in the used market, backed by the region's most extensive service network.

This Car vs Other 2022 Land Cruisers

With 96,000 km over 4 years, this vehicle averages 24,000 km annually, which is standard for a large SUV in the GCC where long-distance highway driving is the norm. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the local market, as it reflects heat more effectively and commands the highest demand at resale. Compared to higher-mileage examples often found in the secondary market, this unit maintains a balance of a modern 300-series platform with a predictable service history.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR is a significant leap over the GXR, adding the sophisticated Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) for a much smoother ride on uneven surfaces. Inside, the cabin is upgraded with a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system and a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display. It also includes essential GCC comforts like ventilated seats for both front and second-row passengers, ensuring every occupant stays cool during peak summer temperatures.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

While the Nissan Patrol offers a traditional V8 experience, the Land Cruiser 300 series leads with a modern twin-turbo V6 that delivers superior low-end torque for sand driving and better highway efficiency. It maintains a 110-litre fuel capacity, providing a longer cruising range for cross-border trips than many European luxury SUVs. Furthermore, the Toyota’s body-on-frame construction offers a level of long-term durability that monocoque competitors like the Land Rover Defender cannot match in extreme heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5L twin-turbo petrol engine is tuned for 95-octane fuel, widely available across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 12.1 L/100km on combined cycles, though this can rise in the stop-start traffic of Dubai or Riyadh. Maintenance is simplified by an authorized service network that is the most dense in the region, with parts available in almost every town. Historically, the Land Cruiser 300 series retains roughly 80-85% of its value after three years in the GCC, outperforming the luxury SUV segment average.

Performance & Capability

The 409 hp output is paired with a massive 650 Nm of torque, allowing this SUV to tow up to 3,500 kg with ease. Off-road, the VXR utilizes a selectable Multi-Terrain Select system and Crawl Control, which acts as a low-speed cruise control for navigating steep dunes or rocky wadis. On the highway, the 10-speed automatic transmission keeps the engine in its optimal power band, making high-speed overtaking smooth and effortless.

Comfort & Cabin

This seven-seater features a four-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents, essential for maintaining cabin temperature when outside heat exceeds 45°C. The VXR trim provides premium leather upholstery and a cooled center console box to keep beverages chilled during long drives. Sound insulation has been significantly improved over the previous generation, creating a quiet sanctuary even at cruising speeds on the E11.

Safety

The VXR comes standard with the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, featuring Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Trace Assist, which are invaluable for reducing fatigue on long desert highways. It also includes a 360-degree panoramic view monitor to assist in parking such a large vehicle in tight urban spaces. With 10 airbags and a robust high-strength steel frame, it offers one of the highest levels of passive safety available in the SUV market today.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a family or executive buyer who wants the prestige and reliability of the LC300 flagship without the initial depreciation of a new showroom model. It is a turn-key solution for anyone needing a vehicle that is equally at home at a five-star hotel or deep in the dunes of the Empty Quarter.
