Summary

This 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR offers a rare and highly desirable combination in the GCC: the 3.3L twin-turbo diesel engine in a high-luxury trim. With 65,420 km, the mileage is well within the expected range for a vehicle built for long-distance desert traverses and inter-emirate travel. The black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale value in the local market, projecting a premium executive presence. As a VXR trim, it provides the sophisticated Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS), which bridges the gap between road comfort and hardcore off-road articulation. For the GCC buyer, this is the ultimate long-range cruiser, offering massive torque and fuel efficiency that significantly outlasts its petrol counterparts on long desert expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2022 Land Cruisers

At roughly 21,800 km per year, this vehicle sits comfortably at the average annual mileage for a GCC-based Land Cruiser, where highway commutes often span hundreds of kilometers. Unlike many base-model GXR diesels found in the market, this is a genuine VXR trim, offering a level of interior refinement and suspension tech rarely paired with the diesel powertrain. The black finish is a high-demand resale color across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring strong liquidity when it comes time to upgrade.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim is a significant jump over the GXR, most notably adding the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and E-KDSS for a much more composed ride on tarmac. Inside, you are treated to a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system, and ventilated seats for both front and second-row passengers—a critical feature for the GCC summer. It also includes the full 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor and a head-up display, which are often absent on lower-tier specifications.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

The Land Cruiser stands apart from rivals like the Nissan Patrol and Chevrolet Tahoe by offering a dedicated diesel option that delivers a massive 700 Nm of torque, outmuscling petrol V8s for towing and sand recovery. Its 110-litre dual-tank system provides a superior touring range, essential for crossing the Empty Quarter or long drives to Salalah. While rivals may offer more screen real estate, the Toyota’s body-on-frame durability and the sheer density of its service network in the region remain unmatched.

Running Costs & Resale

This diesel variant is exceptionally efficient for its size, with real-world highway consumption averaging around 8.9L/100km, a figure no petrol V8 SUV can touch. Resale value for the Land Cruiser in the GCC is legendary, typically retaining over 80% of its value after three years, with the diesel VXR being particularly prized for its rarity. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, with parts available in almost every major city from Kuwait to Muscat.

Performance & Capability

The 302 hp output is impressive, but the headline is the 700 Nm of torque available from as low as 1,600 rpm, allowing this SUV to pull through deep sand or tow up to 3,500 kg with ease. The 10-speed automatic transmission is tuned to keep the twin turbos in their sweet spot, ensuring effortless overtaking on the E11. It features a sophisticated Multi-Terrain Select system and a lockable center differential, making it as capable on the dunes of Liwa as it is refined on the streets of Downtown Dubai.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat cabin is designed for GCC family logistics, featuring a four-zone climate control system that is widely regarded as the most powerful in the segment. The VXR trim includes premium leather upholstery, a cooled center console box for refreshments, and an integrated rear entertainment system to keep passengers occupied on long drives. Cabin insulation has been significantly improved for this generation, providing a quiet sanctuary from wind noise and exterior heat.

Safety

Safety is managed by the Toyota Safety Sense suite, which includes Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control, highly useful for maintaining gaps on fast-moving GCC highways. The VXR comes standard with 10 airbags and a 360-degree camera system that assists in both tight mall parking and technical off-road maneuvers. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert provide essential layers of protection in the high-density traffic of major regional cities.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a high-spec VXR with the efficient and torque-rich diesel engine, making it the perfect choice for a GCC buyer who demands luxury without sacrificing long-range expedition capability.
