Summary

This 2023 Hyundai Elantra SMART offers an ideal balance of modern tech and proven reliability for the GCC driver. With its white exterior—the most sought-after color for heat reflection and resale in the region—it remains a standout choice for those prioritizing long-term value. The 1.6L powertrain is specifically tuned for the stop-start traffic of major cities like Dubai and Riyadh, delivering exceptional fuel efficiency without compromising on highway stability. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system and local warranty support that American or European imports lack. This is a practical, stylish commuter that handles the unique demands of the Middle East with ease.

This Car vs Other 2023 Elantras

With 63,000 km on the odometer, this Elantra sits within the typical annual mileage range for the GCC market, where highway-heavy commuting is standard. Its white exterior provides a significant advantage at resale, as it is the most popular color in the region for its ability to stay cool under the desert sun. Compared to higher-mileage daily rentals, this privately maintained example offers better mechanical longevity.

SMART vs Lower Trims

The SMART trim provides essential upgrades that GCC buyers value, including enhanced connectivity and comfort features over the base model. It typically includes an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rearview camera, and keyless entry. These additions make the daily commute significantly more convenient compared to the entry-level configurations often found in fleet markets.

Elantra vs Segment Rivals

The Elantra leads its segment rivals like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic in terms of interior tech-to-price ratio and bold, modern styling. While the Civic focuses on sportiness, the Elantra offers a softer, more comfortable ride that is better suited for long-distance highway cruises between emirates. Its fuel tank capacity and efficient 1.6L engine ensure fewer stops during cross-border drives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 6.7 L/100km, making it one of the most economical non-hybrid sedans in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Hyundai’s authorized service network, led by Juma Al Majid and Al Masood, is one of the most extensive in the region, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available. The Elantra historically retains roughly 83% of its value after three years in the GCC, outperforming many European rivals.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6L 4-cylinder engine produces 125 hp, providing a smooth and linear power delivery that is perfect for city navigating and maintaining highway speeds. The 6-speed automatic transmission is preferred locally for its durability in high-heat conditions compared to some newer CVT alternatives. While not a performance car, it offers predictable handling and a stable footprint that inspires confidence on multi-lane highways.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to combat the GCC summer with a high-output air conditioning system and dedicated rear cooling vents to keep all five passengers comfortable. Acoustic glass helps insulate the interior from road noise during high-speed highway travel, creating a refined atmosphere. The 474-liter boot space is generous for the segment, easily accommodating family groceries or weekend travel luggage.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a comprehensive airbag system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). The inclusion of a rearview camera and parking sensors provides extra security in tight city parking structures. Its 5-star safety pedigree ensures peace of mind for families and daily commuters alike, with braking systems optimized for both sand-dusted roads and wet surfaces.

The bottom line

For the budget-conscious buyer seeking a modern, GCC-ready sedan with strong resale prospects and low running costs, this 2023 Elantra SMART is a secure and practical investment.
