Summary

This 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy offers a refined family transport solution that bridges the gap between mainstream SUVs and premium European rivals. As the flagship trim in a high-demand GCC spec, it features the 2023 facelift's more imposing grille and enhanced cabin tech, making it a highly desirable choice for resale. With 74,000 km, the mileage is slightly above the typical annual average for the UAE but reflects the highway-heavy use these vehicles are built for. The White exterior is the most resilient color for heat management and commands the strongest resale value in the local market. For a GCC family, this all-wheel-drive flagship provides a level of cooling, comfort, and safety that few in this price bracket can match.

This Car vs Other 2023 Palisades

While 74,000 km is slightly above the local average for a one-year-old vehicle, it indicates a car that has been primarily used for long-distance highway travel, which is less taxing on the drivetrain than stop-start city traffic. The white exterior is a major advantage in the GCC, offering the best heat rejection during summer months and securing the fastest turnaround time at resale. Being the flagship Calligraphy trim, this car carries a higher market value than the more common SEL or Comfort trims found in the region.

CALLIGRAPHY vs Lower Trims

The Calligraphy trim elevates the interior significantly over the Limited and SEL, adding premium Nappa leather seating and a unique Ergo-motion driver's seat designed to reduce fatigue on long drives. It also introduces acoustic-laminated rear door glass for a noticeably quieter cabin on the highway and exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels. Technology is a major leap forward here, with the standard 360-degree camera system and the 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system providing a luxury-tier experience.

Palisade vs Segment Rivals

The Palisade leads the Kia Telluride and Ford Explorer in interior material quality, offering a cabin that feels closer to a luxury brand. Its 3.8L naturally aspirated V6 is preferred by many GCC owners over the turbocharged four-cylinders of competitors for its smooth power delivery and proven reliability in extreme heat. Additionally, the Palisade offers superior third-row adult occupancy comfort compared to the Honda Pilot or Mazda CX-9.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.8L V6 is a robust powertrain well-suited for the GCC, requiring standard 10,000 km service intervals at extensive authorized service centers across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Real-world fuel consumption averages around 10.4 L/100km on the highway, though this will increase in stop-start city traffic during peak summer when the AC is at maximum. The Palisade holds its value exceptionally well in the UAE, typically depreciating at a slower rate than American or European segment rivals due to high demand for large family SUVs.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 295 hp V6, the Palisade reaches 0-100 km/h in approximately 7.7 seconds, providing plenty of power for confident highway overtaking between emirates. The HTRAC All-Wheel Drive system features selectable terrain modes including Sand and Mud, making it capable for weekend camping trips and light desert trails. With a 2,268 kg braked towing capacity, it is also one of the few monocoque SUVs in this class capable of hauling mid-sized boats or trailers.

Comfort & Cabin

This eight-seater configuration is optimized for large families, featuring dedicated rear climate zones and ventilated front seats that are essential for the GCC climate. The 2023 refresh brought a massive 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a digital rearview mirror, ensuring excellent visibility even when the third row is fully occupied. The cabin is designed for long-distance comfort, with multiple USB-C ports in every row and an in-car intercom system to facilitate conversation across the three rows.

Safety

The Calligraphy comes with a full suite of Hyundai SmartSense safety technologies, including Forward Collision-Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot View Monitor which displays a live camera feed in the digital cluster. Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go is particularly useful for the daily commute between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Standard rear side-impact airbags and a 360-degree camera provide comprehensive protection and parking ease in tight urban environments.

The bottom line

This Palisade Calligraphy is the ideal choice for a family looking for flagship luxury and proven GCC reliability without the premium price tag of a European SUV. Its high trim level and popular color choice make it a secure investment for long-term ownership and eventual resale.
