Summary

This 2023 JS4 Luxury offers a compelling entry into the modern compact SUV segment, featuring a sharp aesthetic that stands out on UAE roads. With its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, it balances urban agility with efficient highway cruising, perfect for commutes between the Emirates. As the Luxury trim, it comes equipped with high-demand features like a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof, which significantly bolster its appeal in the local used market. Grey is a versatile, high-resale color in the GCC, offering better heat management than darker shades while maintaining a professional look. This crossover is a practical choice for small families or young professionals seeking a tech-forward vehicle with an extensive regional service network.

This Car vs Other 2023 JS4s

While many entry-level crossovers in the GCC are high-mileage former fleet vehicles, this specific unit stands as a private-use example in the desirable Luxury trim. Its metallic grey finish is highly sought after in the UAE for its ability to hide desert dust and maintain a strong residual value compared to brighter, niche colors. Being a 2023 model, it represents a modern generation that benefits from the latest infotainment and safety updates now expected by GCC buyers.

Luxury vs Lower Trims

Choosing the Luxury trim over the base model adds several features that are critical for the GCC climate and driving style, most notably the automatic climate control system with dedicated rear vents to keep all passengers cool. It also upgrades the cabin with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 360-degree surround-view camera, making parking in tight city spots like Downtown Dubai much simpler. Standard additions also include a panoramic sunroof and leatherette upholstery, providing a more premium feel than the fabric-heavy lower trims.

JS4 vs Segment Rivals

The JS4 distinguishes itself from rivals like the MG ZS and Changan CS35 Plus by offering a class-leading 520-litre boot capacity, which is essential for family road trips across the border. It also features a superior ground clearance of 202 mm, allowing it to navigate high speed bumps and unpaved access roads common in newer GCC developments more confidently than lower-slung competitors. Its standard dual 10.25-inch screen setup provides a more cohesive digital experience than many entry-level Japanese alternatives in the same price bracket.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel efficiency is a strong point, with real-world consumption averaging between 5.6 to 8.3 L/100km depending on GCC traffic conditions, making it an economical choice for long-distance driving. JAC has established a robust service presence across the region, particularly through Al Habtoor Motors in the UAE and Towell Auto Centre in Oman, ensuring that genuine parts and specialized technicians are never far away. While Chinese crossovers generally depreciate faster than Japanese stalwarts, the JS4’s high feature-to-price ratio helps it retain value well within the 3 to 5-year ownership window.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine produces a reliable 148 hp and 210 Nm of torque, providing adequate punch for highway overtaking at typical GCC speeds. The CVT is tuned for smoothness in stop-start city traffic, ensuring a relaxed driving experience through busy metropolitan areas like Riyadh or Dubai. With a top speed of 170 km/h and a 50-litre fuel tank, it is well-suited for cross-country journeys while maintaining stable handling thanks to its MacPherson front suspension.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC lifestyle, featuring five comfortable seats and a dual-screen digital layout that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless navigation. The automatic air conditioning system is particularly effective, quickly cooling the cabin even after the vehicle has been parked in direct sunlight. Generous legroom for rear passengers and the inclusion of a rear center armrest ensure that everyone stays comfortable during longer commutes between emirates.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Luxury trim is comprehensive, featuring 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is vital for maintaining safety during high-temperature summer drives. The 360-degree camera system provides excellent visibility, while Hill-Start Assist and Brake Assist offer extra confidence on inclined highway exits and in sudden traffic stops. Its high-strength steel body construction provides a solid foundation for family safety in fast-moving highway environments.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who prioritizes technology and space without the premium price tag, this Luxury-trim JS4 is a smart, modern choice that excels in the urban environment.
