Summary

This Kia Sonet GL is a modern 5-seater that balances city agility with SUV practicality, making it a reliable choice for daily commuting and weekend outings. With its 1.5-litre engine and smooth automatic transmission, it provides a fuel-efficient driving experience perfectly suited to the GCC's urban landscape. Being a three-year-old vehicle with 76,000 km, it sits at an average mileage for the region, where highway-heavy driving is the norm. The crisp White exterior is a high-demand color in the local market, ensuring excellent heat reflection and stronger resale value when you decide to upgrade. For a GCC buyer seeking a hassle-free ownership experience, this Sonet offers the peace of mind that comes with Kia's massive regional service presence.

This Car vs Other 2023 Sonets

At 76,000 km, this vehicle has covered roughly 25,000 km per year, which is standard for the GCC market where long-distance commutes between emirates are frequent. The White exterior is widely considered the most practical choice for the region, maintaining a cooler cabin during peak summer and holding its value better than darker shades. It represents a well-utilised but market-appropriate example of Kia's popular compact SUV.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim offers significant daily-use upgrades over the base standard models, typically including an 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and a rear-view camera. You also benefit from steering-mounted controls and upgraded exterior styling cues like roof rails that give it a more defined SUV profile. These features are highly sought after by second-hand buyers in the UAE, making the GL a more resilient trim for future resale.

Sonet vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Nissan Magnite or Toyota Raize, the Sonet stands out with its 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine which offers smoother power delivery than some smaller three-cylinder competitors. It provides 392 litres of boot space, one of the most generous in the sub-compact category, making it more capable for family grocery runs or airport trips. The 190 mm ground clearance also gives it an edge when navigating speed bumps and varied road surfaces.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5-litre Smartstream engine is remarkably efficient, typically returning around 15 km/L in mixed driving conditions. Maintenance is straightforward and affordable, with Al Majid Motors and other regional distributors providing one of the most comprehensive service networks across the UAE and the wider GCC. Resale remains strong for this model, typically retaining 65-75% of its value after three years, making it a financially sensible entry point into SUV ownership.

Performance & Capability

With 115 hp and 144 Nm of torque, the Sonet is tuned for efficiency and smooth city cruising rather than raw speed. It handles highway speeds with stability and is easy to maneuver through tight Dubai or Riyadh traffic thanks to its compact turning circle. The front-wheel-drive setup and automatic transmission are designed for reliability, ensuring a stress-free drive during the daily stop-and-go rush hour.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Sonet provides a surprisingly spacious environment for five passengers, with rear AC vents included to keep everyone comfortable during the extreme GCC summer. The cabin is designed with high-quality materials for its class, featuring intuitive controls and a high seating position that offers excellent visibility. For longer drives between cities, the well-insulated interior helps minimize road noise, providing a refined experience for a compact vehicle.

Safety

This trim comes equipped with essential safety features including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control. Rear parking sensors and a high-definition rear-view camera make parking in crowded malls effortless and safer. The vehicle's structure is built with high-strength steel, providing a solid safety foundation that meets rigorous international standards.

The bottom line

This 2023 Kia Sonet GL is the ideal opportunity for a first-time buyer or a small family looking for a reliable, fuel-efficient crossover that is still within its prime ownership window.
