Summary

This 2023 Kia Sonet EX is a standout choice for urban commuters and small families, offering modern styling paired with exceptional fuel efficiency. As the top-spec trim in the UAE market, the EX provides premium features like a sunroof and LED lighting that aren't available on lower variants. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the GCC, ensuring strong resale value and a professional presence on the road. With its compact footprint and raised crossover height, it handles tight city parking and high-speed highway traffic with equal confidence. For a GCC buyer, the balance of Kia's long-term reliability and low running costs makes this one of the most practical pre-owned options available today.

This Car vs Other 2023 Sonets

At 76,000 km, this Sonet has been driven slightly more than the average 20,000–25,000 km per year typically seen in the UAE, indicating it has likely served as a reliable long-distance commuter. The black exterior is a premium resale color in the local market, often fetching a higher price than less conventional shades. Because this is the EX trim, it retains its value significantly better than the base LX models due to the higher level of standard technology.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim elevates the Sonet experience with essential GCC comforts, including an electric sunroof and high-efficiency LED headlights that offer superior visibility during night drives. Inside, you get a larger 8-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration and a rear-view camera, features often missing or downgraded in the LX. It also adds aesthetic upgrades like 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and silver roof racks that give it a more premium crossover stance.

Sonet vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi ASX or Toyota Urban Cruiser, the Sonet leads in cargo versatility with a generous 392-litre boot space. Its 1.5L engine is specifically tuned for a balance of city agility and highway efficiency, often outperforming the Renault Duster in real-world fuel economy. Additionally, Kia’s infotainment interface is widely considered more intuitive and responsive than many other sub-compact crossovers in this price bracket.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L engine is incredibly frugal, achieving a combined rating of 5.7 L/100km, which translates to massive savings during daily Dubai-to-Sharjah or Abu Dhabi commutes. Kia maintains one of the most robust service networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available at any major service center. The Sonet has shown strong value retention in the GCC, typically depreciating at a lower rate than its European counterparts.

Performance & Capability

With a top speed of 170 km/h and a smooth CVT, the Sonet is designed for effortless cruising on the E11 and other major GCC motorways. Its 190 mm ground clearance is a genuine advantage, allowing you to navigate high speed bumps and uneven gravel roads near weekend getaway spots without concern. The front-wheel-drive setup is optimized for traction in stop-start city traffic, providing a light and agile steering feel.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is built to withstand the intense GCC summer, featuring dedicated rear AC vents to ensure all five passengers stay cool. High-quality fabric seating and acoustic insulation provide a quiet environment even at highway speeds, while the sunroof adds an airy feel to the sub-compact interior. For the driver, steering-mounted controls and a clear digital instrument cluster make long-distance trips significantly less taxing.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive for the segment, featuring dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) as standard. The inclusion of a high-resolution rear-view camera and parking sensors is particularly helpful in the tight parking environments of Riyadh or Dubai. The Sonet’s structure is designed with high-strength steel to provide a rigid safety cell, earning it high praise in regional safety evaluations.

The bottom line

Perfect for the budget-conscious professional or small family, this Sonet EX offers the best of Kia’s modern tech in a fuel-efficient package that’s ready for the GCC’s demanding roads.
