Summary

This 2023 Kia Sonet EX is a standout choice for urban commuters and small families in the GCC, offering a modern crossover experience with high efficiency. With just over 50,000 km, it sits in a sweet spot of balanced usage for a three-year-old vehicle in the UAE market. The EX trim adds key comfort and tech features like cruise control and LED lighting that significantly improve the daily drive compared to the base models. Its grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand choice that helps maintain strong resale value across the region. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is fully optimized for the extreme local climate, ensuring reliable cooling even during peak summer months.

This Car vs Other 2023 Kia Sonets

With 50,919 km on the odometer, this Sonet has been driven approximately 17,000 km per year, which is below the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. This lower-than-average mileage makes it a compelling option for buyers seeking a well-maintained mechanical history. The grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, resisting the visible effects of dust while remaining a staple for resale stability.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim elevates the Sonet experience by adding 16-inch alloy wheels and integrated roof rails that provide a more premium, rugged SUV stance compared to the LX. Inside, you benefit from a remote engine start system—a critical feature for pre-cooling the cabin in the GCC summer—alongside cruise control and a push-button start. It also replaces the basic rear bench with 60:40 split-folding seats for much better cargo flexibility.

Sonet vs Segment Rivals

The Kia Sonet leads competitors like the Renault Duster and Mitsubishi ASX in terms of modern cabin technology and fuel efficiency. While rivals may offer larger footprints, the Sonet's tight 2,500 mm wheelbase makes it exceptionally easy to park in crowded Dubai or Riyadh districts. Its infotainment system with wireless smartphone integration is widely considered more intuitive and responsive than many other entries in the sub-compact SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L powertrain delivers an impressive 5.7 L/100km combined, making it one of the most economical non-hybrid crossovers for GCC highway and city driving. Kia enjoys one of the widest service networks in the Middle East, with major hubs in every emirate and across Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are affordable and always available. The Sonet retains value well in the local market, typically seeing slower depreciation than European rivals due to its reputation for long-term reliability.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 1.5-litre engine producing 113 hp and 144 Nm of torque, the Sonet is tuned for smooth urban navigation and efficient highway cruising. The Smartstream CVT transmission is designed for linear power delivery, helping the car achieve a top speed of 170 km/h. While front-wheel drive, its 205 mm ground clearance is generous for a compact vehicle, allowing it to handle speed bumps and gravel tracks with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Sonet EX provides a surprisingly spacious environment for five passengers, featuring a high seating position for excellent visibility. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the high-ambient temperatures of the GCC, featuring dedicated rear vents to keep all passengers comfortable. The cabin is further enhanced by an 8-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring seamless connectivity on long inter-city drives.

Safety

The Sonet EX is equipped with a robust safety suite including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which are vital for maintaining traction on sandy road shoulders. It features dual front airbags as standard, along with a high-line Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and rear parking sensors with a camera. The inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors makes it a secure choice for young families.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a fuel-efficient, tech-forward crossover that is still under a modern design cycle, this low-mileage EX trim is the ideal balance of practicality and value.
