Kia Sorento EX Kia Sorento Diesel 2023 2.2

Highlights

• 6.1 L/100km combined fuel economy
• Smart Power Tailgate standard
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2023 Kia Sorento EX presents a compelling case for buyers seeking a modern, fuel-efficient SUV with very low mileage for its age. While most mid-size SUVs in the region rely on thirsty petrol engines, this 2.2L diesel variant offers exceptional range, making it ideal for cross-emirate commutes or long highway stretches. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the GCC, ensuring strong resale liquidity and a premium look. As a Korean-spec model, it features a high equipment level that bridges the gap between value and luxury. For the GCC buyer, the primary consideration is the balance of Kia's massive regional service support against the increased efficiency of this specific powertrain.

This Car vs Other 2023 Sorentos

With just 25,000 km on the odometer, this Sorento is well below the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km, representing significantly less mechanical wear than most 2023 examples on the market. The black exterior is a top-tier resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, holding value better than niche colors. While many local units are petrol, this diesel variant is a distinct advantage for high-mileage drivers looking to slash monthly fuel costs.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim provides a significant jump in daily convenience over the base LX and S trims, most notably adding a Smart Power Tailgate and wireless phone charging. It also upgrades the cabin with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen featuring integrated navigation, which is a major draw for secondary buyers in the used market. You also benefit from enhanced ADAS features like Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, making highway traffic much less taxing.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento stands out against rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport by offering a more car-like, refined monocoque chassis that excels in city comfort. Its 2.2L diesel engine is significantly more efficient than the petrol V6 options found in the Nissan X-Terra, providing a total highway range that few in this segment can match. For families who prioritize cabin tech and fuel economy over heavy off-roading, the Sorento leads with a more modern interior layout.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is remarkably low, averaging approximately 6.1 L/100km on combined cycles, which is roughly 30-40% better than petrol competitors in stop-start GCC traffic. Kia maintains one of the most robust authorized service networks across the UAE, KSA, and Oman, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available. The Sorento historically retains roughly 80-85% of its value after the first three years in the GCC, performing better than most European counterparts.

Performance & Capability

The 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine delivers 180 horsepower and a punchy 440 Nm of torque, allowing for effortless highway overtaking even when fully loaded. The 8-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, providing a relaxed experience during long-distance drives between emirates. While this Front Wheel Drive configuration is focused on road efficiency, the 176mm ground clearance is more than enough for gravel tracks and weekend camping spots.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat configuration ensures massive boot space for family gear, while the EX trim features dual-zone automatic climate control to handle extreme summer temperatures. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated cooling vents, a vital feature for the local climate. The cabin is well-insulated from road noise, and the inclusion of premium SynTex seat trim provides a durable yet upscale feel that resists the wear and tear of daily GCC use.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus for this trim, featuring a suite of active systems including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance. The inclusion of Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go is particularly useful on the E11 and other major regional highways, while Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance adds peace of mind in busy shopping mall parking lots. Multiple airbags and high-strength steel construction contribute to its excellent global safety reputation.

The bottom line

For the practical GCC buyer, this low-mileage Sorento EX offers the perfect mix of high-end tech and class-leading fuel economy in a high-resale color.
