Summary

This 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport in the GLS PREMIUM trim represents a high-value opportunity for GCC families seeking a balance between rugged capability and everyday luxury. While the mileage reflects a busy life on the road, it is perfectly aligned with the high-utilization nature of GCC driving, where highway-heavy commutes are the norm. The black exterior is a perennial favorite in the region, ensuring strong demand when the time comes to resell. This model stands out because it offers a genuine mechanical four-wheel-drive system that its car-based crossover rivals simply cannot match. For a buyer in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, the most important consideration is the legendary reliability and cooling performance that Mitsubishi is known for in extreme desert heat. Choosing this GLS PREMIUM trim ensures you have the tech and safety features usually reserved for luxury brands, but with the lower maintenance costs of a Japanese workhorse.

This Car vs Other 2023 Montero Sports

When comparing this specific 2023 unit to others on the market, the primary factor is its mileage. In the GCC, it is common to see SUVs like this cover 25,000 to 30,000 km per year due to the long distances between major cities, making this vehicle's 110,373 km a typical reflection of three to four years of consistent highway use. Unlike many units that may have been used purely for school runs, this car has been broken in for the long-haul journeys the region is famous for. The Black exterior is one of the top three colors for resale in the local market, holding its value significantly better than more adventurous or niche colors. Furthermore, being a GCC spec vehicle, it comes with the heavy-duty radiator and air conditioning systems specifically engineered to handle 50-degree summer peaks. This provides a massive peace of mind advantage over imported American or European spec models that often struggle with the local climate.

GLS PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GLS PREMIUM trim transforms the Montero Sport from a capable tool into a sophisticated family sanctuary. While lower trims often stick to basic fabric and manual adjustments, the GLS PREMIUM introduces high-quality leather upholstery and power-adjustable seating that makes long Dubai-to-Muscat drives far less fatiguing. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the upgraded climate control system, which features roof-mounted vents for all three rows to ensure rapid cooling after the car has been parked in the sun. This trim also includes the 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a more advanced smartphone link display, offering a modern tech experience that base models lack. Additionally, the premium trim adds the 360-degree multi-view camera system, an essential feature for navigating tight parking spots in busy urban areas like Downtown Dubai or Riyadh's commercial districts.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

The Montero Sport occupies a unique space in the GCC market, often cross-shoppped against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest. While the Fortuner is legendary for its durability, the Mitsubishi leads in ride comfort thanks to its sophisticated rear suspension setup, which feels less truck-like on the highway. Compared to more expensive crossovers, the Montero Sport offers a genuine 70-liter fuel tank, providing a significant range advantage for those exploring the vast highways of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It also features the Super Select II 4WD system, which allows for high-range four-wheel drive on paved roads—a feature many rivals lack, providing better grip during the occasional heavy rainstorms or on sandy highway shoulders. Its cabin insulation is also frequently cited as superior to the Everest in terms of blocking out high-speed wind noise during desert crosswinds.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating a Mitsubishi Montero Sport in the GCC is remarkably cost-effective compared to European SUV alternatives. The 3L V6 is tuned to run efficiently on local fuel grades, averaging around 10.5L per 100km on the highway, which is excellent for a vehicle of this size and weight. Mitsubishi’s service network is among the most extensive in the region, with authorized centers and readily available spare parts from Kuwait to Oman, ensuring that maintenance is never a logistical headache. Historically, this model experiences some of the lowest depreciation rates in its class, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually compared to the 15% seen in luxury segments. This makes it a safe 'money-in-the-bank' purchase, as there is always a high demand for well-maintained, GCC-spec Japanese SUVs in the secondary market. At the three-year mark, these vehicles often retain over 65% of their original value if serviced correctly.

Performance & Capability

At the heart of the Montero Sport is a robust 3.0L V6 engine that provides smooth, linear power delivery ideal for the fast-paced flow of GCC traffic. The real magic, however, is the Super Select 4WD-II system, which offers a dedicated '4LLc' (low range with locked center differential) mode for genuine off-road excursions into the Liwa or Fossil Rock dunes. With a generous ground clearance of 218mm, it can navigate obstacles that would leave modern crossovers stranded. The automatic transmission is tuned for long-distance comfort, keeping revs low at highway speeds to reduce cabin vibration. It also boasts a respectable towing capacity, making it suitable for those who need to haul jet skis or small camping trailers for weekend trips to the coast. Whether you are overtaking a truck on the E11 or climbing a steep gravel track in the Hajar Mountains, the mechanical hardware under this car is built to endure.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Montero Sport is designed for the modern GCC family, offering seven seats across three rows with a flexible layout. The second row provides ample legroom for adults, while the third row is perfect for children, ensuring everyone stays comfortable during extended road trips. The cabin is an oasis against the heat, featuring a high-capacity air conditioning system that is widely regarded as one of the best in the segment. Acoustic glass and extensive soundproofing ensure that the interior remains quiet even at 120 km/h, allowing for easy conversation or enjoyment of the premium audio system. Storage is plentiful, with various bins and cubbies for sunblock, water bottles, and electronics. The cargo space is surprisingly generous when the third row is folded, easily swallowing enough luggage for a family weekend at a mountain resort in Ras Al Khaimah.

Safety

Safety is a paramount concern for Mitsubishi, and the GLS PREMIUM trim reflects this with a comprehensive suite of active technologies. It features Adaptive Cruise Control, which is a lifesaver on the long, straight highways between emirates, maintaining a safe distance from the car ahead automatically. The Blind Spot Warning system is particularly useful on multi-lane roads like Sheikh Zayed Road, where high-speed lane changes are common. It also includes Forward Collision Mitigation and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert to prevent low-speed accidents in crowded parking lots. With seven airbags as standard and a reinforced RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure, this vehicle provides a high level of passive protection. This trim's safety features are often only available as expensive options on rival models, making it a superior choice for safety-conscious parents.

The bottom line

This Montero Sport is the ideal choice for a pragmatic GCC buyer who wants a reliable, 7-seater SUV that can transition seamlessly from the school run to a desert campsite. Given its GCC-specific engineering and the prestige of the GLS PREMIUM trim, it represents one of the most sensible and resilient investments in the current used car market.
