Summary

This 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a robust choice for families, offering a proven 3.0L V6 engine and genuine off-road hardware in a segment increasingly filled with softer crossovers. With a vehicle age of 3 years and 58,000 km, the mileage is slightly above the GCC annual average but reflects typical highway-heavy usage between emirates. The black exterior is a strong resale color in the regional market, ensuring it remains desirable when you decide to upgrade. It stands out for its high-trim GLS Premium equipment, providing comforts usually reserved for much more expensive SUVs. For a GCC buyer, the primary advantage is the exceptional availability of parts and specialized service centers from Abu Dhabi to Muscat.

This Car vs Other 2023 Montero Sports

At 58,000 km, this vehicle has been driven roughly 19,000 km per year, which is slightly below the GCC typical average of 20,000–25,000 km. This makes it a well-utilized but mechanically fresh example compared to many high-mileage units found in the local secondary market. The black finish provides a sophisticated look that maintains higher resale value in the GCC compared to non-standard colors.

GLS PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

The GLS Premium trim significantly upgrades the ownership experience over the base GLX and standard GLS by adding a 360° camera and a full suite of 7 airbags. GCC buyers will particularly value the upgraded leather upholstery and the power-adjustable driver’s seat which are missing on lower variants. It also features a superior 8-inch digital instrument cluster and integrated navigation, providing a more modern cabin feel than the analog gauges of the entry-level models.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X, the Montero Sport leads with a smoother 8-speed automatic transmission that offers better refinement during long highway cruises across the UAE. While rivals often use 6-speed units, this Mitsubishi's additional gears keep engine noise lower at cruising speeds. Furthermore, its Super Select II 4WD system allows for high-range four-wheel drive use on paved roads, a safety feature not typically found in the part-time systems of its closest competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L V6 engine typically averages around 10.5 L/100km in combined GCC driving, benefiting from the efficiency of the 8-speed gearbox on open highways. Maintenance is simplified by one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the region, with service intervals recommended every 10,000 km. Historically, the Montero Sport retains approximately 60-65% of its value after three years in the GCC, making it a stable asset compared to many European mid-size SUVs.

Performance & Capability

With 230 hp and a dedicated low-range transfer case, this SUV is capable of handling weekend desert excursions and sandy beach drives with ease. The 218 mm ground clearance and 30-degree approach angle allow it to clear obstacles that would stop most road-biased crossovers. On the road, the V6 provides predictable power for highway overtaking, even when fully loaded with seven passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful dual-zone climate control system with dedicated vents for both the second and third rows to ensure all 7 passengers stay cool. The GLS Premium's leather seats are durable and easy to clean after family trips to the desert or beach. Cabin tech includes a responsive 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, essential for navigating traffic in cities like Dubai or Riyadh.

Safety

Safety is a priority in this top-tier trim, which includes a total of 7 airbags and a 360° Multi-Around Monitor that makes parking in tight urban spaces significantly safer. It also comes standard with Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC) and Hill Start Assist, which are particularly useful for maintaining control on loose gravel or inclined highway ramps. These active systems provide peace of mind during fast-moving GCC highway commutes.

The bottom line

For the active GCC family, this GLS Premium trim offers the perfect balance of top-tier cabin technology and rugged V6 durability. It is a smart opportunity for a buyer who wants the features of a luxury SUV with the proven reliability of a Japanese 4x4.
