Summary

This Skywell ET5 is a compelling choice for UAE buyers looking to transition to electric mobility without sacrificing the familiar comfort of a mid-size SUV. At three years old, it offers a refined cabin experience characterized by premium materials and modern tech that rivals established European marques. The Luxury trim is particularly well-suited for the GCC, featuring high-performance climate control and essential seat ventilation for the summer months. Its grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, known for maintaining strong resale value and hiding desert dust better than darker tones. With a silent drive and ample family space, it stands out as a sophisticated, tech-forward daily commuter.

This Car vs Other 2023 Skywell ET5s

This GCC-spec model is specifically built to handle the region's extreme heat, featuring a cooling system optimized for local conditions unlike imported European or Chinese market variants. Its grey finish is among the most sought-after colors in the UAE used market, ensuring better value retention than more niche shades. As a three-year-old vehicle, it represents a sweet spot in the depreciation curve for savvy EV buyers.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim significantly upgrades the ownership experience over the base Comfort model by adding essential GCC features like ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. It also introduces the high-definition 360-degree camera system and adaptive cruise control, which are vital for navigating busy UAE highways. Inside, you benefit from an upgraded 8-speaker audio system and ambient lighting that isn't standard on lower configurations.

ET5 vs Segment Rivals

The Skywell ET5 leads many rivals like the BYD Atto 3 in cabin dimensions, offering a more generous 2,800mm wheelbase that results in superior rear legroom for families. While competitors may focus on minimalist interiors, the ET5 prioritizes comfort with its unique 'Healthy Sleep' seat mode and plush upholstery. Its 467-liter boot space is also highly competitive, easily accommodating a full weekly grocery run or strollers.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs are exceptionally low compared to petrol SUVs, with significantly reduced maintenance requirements due to the electric powertrain. The authorized service network is expanding across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with recommended service intervals of 10,000 km or 6 months to ensure battery health. While early Chinese EVs faced steeper initial depreciation, the ET5 has stabilized due to its high equipment levels and the growing demand for affordable electric family cars in the GCC.

Performance & Capability

With 204 hp and 320 Nm of instant torque, the ET5 provides effortless acceleration for city driving and confident overtaking on the E11. It reaches a top speed of 150 km/h, maintaining a quiet and stable cabin even at highway limits. The front-wheel-drive setup is tuned for comfort and efficiency, making it an ideal platform for the daily Dubai-Abu Dhabi commute.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance comfort, featuring a massive 12.8-inch central touchscreen and a fully digital instrument cluster. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated cooling vents and a flat floor, providing a spacious feel for three adults. The panoramic sunroof features a high-quality tint to keep the cabin cool, while the ventilated seats provide immediate relief during the peak of the GCC summer.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on the Luxury trim, featuring a Level 2 ADAS suite that includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. These systems are particularly effective on fast-moving multi-lane roads. The vehicle is also equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX points for child seats, and front and rear parking sensors to complement the 360-degree camera.

The bottom line

This Skywell ET5 is perfect for the tech-conscious family looking for a premium electric SUV experience without the premium price tag. Its GCC-specific Luxury spec makes it a reliable and comfortable partner for daily life in the Emirates.
