Toyota Hiace GL Petrol Automatic Gear

Highlights

• 277 hp from a 3.5-litre V6 engine
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2023 Hiace GL is a standout choice for high-capacity transport, offering the robust 3.5L V6 engine that provides significantly more highway confidence than the standard four-cylinder diesel alternatives. With only 40,000 km, this vehicle is barely broken in by GCC commercial standards, where these workhorses regularly exceed 300,000 km. The white exterior is the gold standard for resale in the region, helping to deflect the intense summer heat while ensuring the best possible value when it comes time to trade. As a GCC-spec model, it is fully optimized for local fuel grades and the extreme cooling demands of the UAE and Saudi climates. For anyone needing a reliable 9+ seater, this Hiace offers the perfect balance of modern safety, Toyota durability, and a powertrain built for long-distance cruising.

This Car vs Other 2023 Hiaces

At 40,000 km, this Hiace sits well below the typical annual mileage for commercial-use buses in the GCC, which often cover 60,000 km or more per year. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the local market, offering the highest resale demand and superior heat reflection compared to darker tones. Choosing a 2023 model ensures you benefit from the latest H300-generation safety improvements and chassis refinement.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the ownership experience with better interior materials and essential convenience features that lower-spec DX models lack. It typically adds power windows, central locking, and a higher-quality seat fabric that better resists the wear of daily passenger transport. Most importantly for the GCC, the GL often features enhanced air conditioning controls to ensure rear passengers stay comfortable during peak summer heat.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace dominates rivals like the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai H1 primarily through its exceptional reliability and the sheer power of the 277 hp V6 engine, which outclasses the Urvan's 4-cylinder in highway overtaking. While rivals may offer slightly different seating layouts, the Hiace remains the segment leader for long-term durability and parts availability across every GCC border. Its semi-bonneted design also provides a superior safety profile compared to older cab-over-engine competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 petrol engine typically averages around 12 L/100km, offering a smoother and quieter ride than diesel variants at the expense of higher pump frequency in stop-start traffic. Maintenance is remarkably straightforward, with minor services every 5,000 km and major intervals at 40,000 km, supported by the most extensive service network in the region from Al Futtaim and Abdul Latif Jameel. Historically, the Hiace retains roughly 85-90% of its value in the first two years, making it one of the safest automotive investments in the GCC.

Performance & Capability

The 277 hp V6 engine transforms the Hiace from a simple city shuttle into a capable long-distance cruiser, reaching a top speed of approximately 160 km/h with ease. Its Rear Wheel Drive configuration and 6-speed automatic transmission are tuned for durability under heavy loads, ensuring the bus remains stable even when at full seating capacity. The 351 Nm of torque is particularly useful for maintaining speed on the inclined highway routes between emirates or crossing into neighboring GCC countries.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Hiace GL is designed for maximum passenger volume with a 9+ seat configuration that maintains a clear aisle for easy entry and exit. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the Middle East, featuring powerful compressors and dedicated rear vents that can drop cabin temperatures rapidly in 45°C+ weather. Acoustic insulation has been improved in this generation, significantly reducing the road and wind noise that usually plagues large passenger vans during high-speed highway travel.

Safety

Standard safety features on this GL trim include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control, which are vital for maintaining grip on sandy or rain-slicked GCC roads. It also features dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to ensure controlled stopping power even when fully loaded. The semi-bonneted H300 chassis design provides a crucial crumple zone, offering significantly better crash protection than older flat-fronted van models.

The bottom line

For a fleet operator or a large family, this low-mileage V6 Hiace GL represents the most reliable and resale-proof transport solution available in the GCC today.
