Toyota Hiace GL Toyota Hiace Std Roof Van 2.7 L, model: 2023

Highlights

• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market
• 1,085 kg maximum payload

Summary

This 2023 Toyota Hiace GL represents a strategic purchase for anyone needing a reliable workhorse with mileage well below the typical GCC annual average for commercial vans. As a three-year-old vehicle with only 38,000 km, it has barely begun its long service life, especially considering the Hiace's legendary reputation for reaching massive odometer readings. The white exterior is the gold standard for resale in the region, ensuring the best possible value retention when it is time to upgrade. Choosing the GL trim provides a more professional appearance and a significantly more comfortable cabin than the base versions, making it ideal for business owners who drive themselves. In a market where downtime is costly, the Hiace stands out for its unmatched parts availability and mechanical simplicity.

This Car vs Other 2023 Hiaces

While many commercial vans in the UAE and wider GCC cover 25,000 to 30,000 km per year, this Hiace has averaged just over 12,000 km annually. This low usage means significantly less wear on the manual gearbox and suspension components compared to most used fleet examples. The white paint is not just a practical choice for the heat; it is the most sought-after color in the local secondary market.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim elevates the Hiace from a basic utility tool to a more refined professional vehicle by adding body-colored bumpers and chrome exterior accents. Inside, you get a significant upgrade in cabin materials and features, including a more advanced audio system and better-cushioned seats. These additions make a noticeable difference in driver fatigue during long shifts in stop-start traffic.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Nissan Urvan or Hyundai Staria, the Hiace leads on total cost of ownership thanks to its superior resale value, which typically retains about 68% after three years. Its 2.7L petrol engine is specifically favored in the GCC for its ability to handle low-grade fuel and extreme heat without the complexity of modern diesel systems. The service network for Toyota is also the most comprehensive across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L petrol engine typically ranges between 9.5 and 11.5 L/100km, depending on the payload and city traffic conditions. Toyota’s GCC service intervals are set at every 10,000 km, and with the most widespread authorized service network in the region, maintenance is never a logistical challenge. This model is famous for its slow depreciation, making it a safe asset for any business balance sheet.

Performance & Capability

The 2.7L four-cylinder engine produces a reliable 164 hp, which is perfectly geared for urban deliveries and highway cruising alike. With a verified payload capacity of over 1,000 kg, it handles heavy loads with stability thanks to its rear-wheel-drive configuration and reinforced leaf-spring suspension. The 5-speed manual transmission gives the driver total control over power delivery, a preferred setup for many commercial operators in the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The 3-seater cabin is designed for functionality and durability, featuring easy-to-clean materials that stand up well to daily use. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the GCC, providing rapid cooling even when the van has been parked in direct sunlight. Smart storage compartments and a driver-focused dashboard layout ensure that tools and documents are always within reach during busy workdays.

Safety

Standard safety features on this GL trim include dual front airbags, anti-lock braking (ABS), and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to maintain control when braking with a full load. It also features Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which are particularly useful when navigating steep ramps or loose surfaces at work sites. The semi-bonnet design provides a crucial crumple zone that older cab-over-engine vans lacked.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a business owner to secure a low-mileage, GCC-spec Hiace GL that offers better comfort than a base model and holds its value better than any rival. It is the most sensible investment for anyone prioritizing durability and ease of maintenance in the Middle East.
