Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado TX-L represents one of the most logical and secure investments a buyer can make in the GCC used car market today. With a mileage that sits significantly below the regional average for a vehicle of this age, it offers many years of trouble-free driving ahead. The black exterior is a highly sought-after shade in the UAE, ensuring that resale value remains exceptionally high when it comes time to upgrade. As a TX-L trim powered by the robust 4.0L V6 engine, it strikes the perfect balance between daily urban refinement and the rugged capability required for weekend desert excursions. While rivals may offer more high-tech gadgets, the Prado stands alone in its reputation for mechanical immortality and ease of maintenance. For the GCC buyer, the most important consideration is the peace of mind provided by a massive service network and parts availability that spans from the heart of Dubai to the remotest parts of Oman and Saudi Arabia.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

In the GCC, where the average annual mileage typically ranges between 20,000 and 25,000 km, this specific vehicle is remarkably well-preserved. At just 36,000 km, it has covered roughly half the distance of many other 2023 models currently on the market, meaning the engine and suspension components are still in their prime. Most Prados of this vintage have been utilized as heavy-duty family haulers or long-distance commuters, but the condition here suggests a more conservative history. The black paintwork is a significant asset in the local market; it is considered a 'safe' resale color that appeals to a wide demographic, unlike more niche or bright colors. Choosing a low-mileage example like this one effectively resets the clock on your ownership experience, giving you a vehicle that feels and drives like it recently left the showroom. Furthermore, being a GCC-spec model, it bypasses the risks associated with imported 'salvage' vehicles, offering a transparent history and full compatibility with local cooling requirements.

TX-L vs Lower Trims

Moving up to the TX-L trim is a strategic choice for the discerning GCC driver who requires more than just basic utility. Unlike the base EXR or GX trims, the TX-L introduces a suite of comfort and aesthetic upgrades that significantly enhance the daily driving experience in our extreme climate. You gain superior interior materials and often better sound insulation, which becomes immediately apparent during high-speed highway cruises between Emirates. The TX-L also features upgraded exterior elements like side steps and roof rails that add to its commanding presence. Inside, the inclusion of more sophisticated climate control options ensures that all seven passengers remain cool even when the external temperature hits 50°C. Perhaps most importantly, the TX-L trim is the 'sweet spot' for resale; it is the most requested configuration by used car buyers in the UAE, ensuring your vehicle will always be in high demand.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado consistently outperforms rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and the Ford Explorer by offering a more robust ladder-frame construction combined with legendary reliability. While the Pajero is a venerable competitor, the Prado's 4.0L V6 engine provides a more refined power delivery and better long-term parts support across the region. Against the Ford Explorer, which leans more towards a car-like unibody feel, the Prado offers genuine off-road hardware that can handle the shifting sands of the Liwa desert without breaking a sweat. Its fuel tank capacity is specifically engineered for the vast distances of the Arabian Peninsula, allowing for fewer stops on long cross-border trips. Additionally, the Prado's cabin cooling system is widely regarded as the gold standard for the GCC, reaching comfortable temperatures far faster than its American or European counterparts. It is this combination of heat-management, durability, and off-road pedigree that keeps it at the top of the sales charts year after year.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a Prado in the GCC is a masterclass in financial prudence, as it boasts the lowest depreciation rate in its class, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually compared to the 15-20% seen in European rivals. The 4.0L V6 engine is designed to run efficiently on local petrol grades, and while it is a powerful unit, it maintains reasonable consumption during highway cruising. Maintenance is remarkably straightforward, with authorized service centers located in virtually every major city across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Service intervals are standardized, and because the mechanical platform has been refined over decades, unexpected repairs are exceedingly rare. After three years of ownership, a GCC-spec Prado often retains up to 70-75% of its original value, making the total cost of ownership incredibly low. Parts are available at various price points, from genuine OEM to high-quality aftermarket options, ensuring that keeping the car in top shape never becomes a financial burden.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood lies the iconic 4.0L V6 engine producing 271 hp, a powerplant renowned for its ability to operate in extreme heat without losing performance. This engine provides the necessary torque for effortless overtaking on the E11 highway and the low-end grunt required for technical dune bashing. The sophisticated All-Wheel Drive system is complemented by a proper low-range transfer case, a feature that distinguishes the Prado as a 'real' 4x4 rather than just a tall crossover. With a generous ground clearance of 215 mm, it easily clears obstacles that would stop other SUVs in their tracks. Whether you are towing a jet ski to the coast or navigating a rocky wadi in Hatta, the Prado's suspension is tuned to soak up imperfections while maintaining stability. The 0-100 km/h sprint is handled with a smooth, linear progression that emphasizes durability over frantic speed, ensuring the powertrain remains reliable for hundreds of thousands of kilometers.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of this TX-L is designed to be a sanctuary from the harsh GCC environment, featuring a 7-seat configuration that is perfect for large families. The air conditioning system is arguably the best in the world, with dedicated vents for the second and third rows ensuring that every passenger experiences consistent cooling. The cabin is spacious, offering ample legroom in the first two rows and a flexible third row that can be folded flat to create a massive cargo area for camping gear or shopping hauls. High-quality materials are used throughout the touchpoints, designed to resist the wear and tear of sandy feet and intense sunlight. Sound insulation has been carefully engineered to minimize road noise, making the Prado a surprisingly quiet place for long-distance travel. The elevated seating position provides excellent visibility over traffic, a crucial advantage on the busy, multi-lane roads of Dubai and Riyadh.

Safety

Safety in the Prado is comprehensive, backed by a 5-Star NCAP rating that provides peace of mind for family duties. This TX-L comes equipped with a suite of active safety features including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are vital when driving on unpredictable surfaces like sand-covered asphalt or gravel tracks. The braking system is assisted by Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), ensuring stable stops even when the vehicle is fully loaded with seven passengers and luggage. Multiple airbags provide a protective cocoon for all occupants, while the reinforced body shell is designed to divert energy away from the cabin in the event of an impact. For the GCC driver, the inclusion of high-quality ISOFIX points makes it an ideal choice for young families, while the bright LED lighting ensures maximum visibility during dusty conditions or night-time desert drives.

The bottom line

This low-mileage, GCC-spec 2023 Prado TX-L is the ultimate 'blue-chip' purchase for anyone seeking a vehicle that will never let them down and will always be easy to sell. It is the perfect choice for a family that wants a comfortable city commuter during the week and a capable desert explorer on the weekends.
