Summary

This 2024 BMW 740i M Sport represents a significant buying opportunity for the executive seeking the current generation's boldest design and tech. With 45,000 km in two years, its mileage is exactly in line with typical GCC highway use, and the Grey exterior remains a top-tier choice for resale value in the local market. The M Sport trim adds the aggressive visual presence and performance tuning that distinguishes this flagship from the standard 7 Series, making it a standout in Abu Dhabi or Dubai traffic. As an all-wheel drive petrol sedan, it delivers consistent traction and smooth power delivery, perfectly suited for the long-distance hauls and high temperatures of the region. This is the ideal balance of BMW's latest digital cabin and reliable straight-six power.

This Car vs Other 2024 740is

With 45,000 km on the odometer, this sedan has been driven approximately 22,500 km per year, which is considered average for an executive car in the GCC where highway commutes are the norm. The Grey finish is one of the most sought-after colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring it will hold its appeal at resale better than bolder, niche colors. Choosing a 2-year-old GCC-spec model provides the perfect sweet spot of modern features while avoiding the initial steep depreciation of a brand-new unit.

M SPORT vs Lower Trims

The M Sport trim is the most requested specification in the GCC, adding the high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels, and a more aggressive front apron. Inside, it upgrades the experience with an M leather steering wheel and specific interior accents that distinguish it from the base 740i. Crucially, this trim includes the adaptive air suspension tuned for a more engaging drive without sacrificing the flagship's legendary ride comfort.

740i vs Segment Rivals

The 740i leads rivals like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8 with its integrated 48V mild-hybrid technology that provides smoother stop-start transitions in heavy city traffic. Its 3.0-litre inline-six is widely regarded as the most refined powertrain in the segment, offering a characterful engine note that competitors' V6 units often lack. For the GCC buyer, the BMW Curved Display and iDrive 8.5 system offer a more intuitive and faster interface than the systems found in the Lexus LS.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this mild-hybrid powertrain typically averages around 7.9 L/100km, which is highly competitive for a sedan of this size on GCC highways. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from the extensive BMW authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, which is vital for maintaining resale value. The 7 Series typically sees a depreciation rate of 12–15% annually in the local market, but M Sport versions in neutral colors consistently command a premium on the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

The 375 hp output allows for effortless highway overtaking, reaching 100 km/h in a swift 5.2 seconds. The xDrive all-wheel drive system ensures maximum stability during the occasional rain-slicked road or on sandy highway shoulders common across the Emirates. Its 8-speed automatic transmission is specifically calibrated for high-speed cruising, keeping RPMs low to ensure a silent cabin experience during cross-country drives between Abu Dhabi and Muscat.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the extreme GCC summer, featuring a high-performance four-zone automatic climate control system and standard heated seats. The 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system provides an immersive acoustic environment that is isolated from road and wind noise through extensive acoustic glazing. Passengers benefit from the BMW Interaction Bar, which combines ambient lighting with tactile controls, creating a lounge-like atmosphere for night drives.

Safety

This 740i is equipped with a comprehensive ADAS suite, including forward collision warning with automatic braking and blind-spot monitoring, which are essential for fast-moving GCC highway traffic. The automated parking system and 360-degree cameras make navigating tight urban parking in major cities effortless. Standard lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control provide a significant safety margin during long, monotonous desert drives.

The bottom line

For the executive who wants the most technologically advanced sedan on the road today, this GCC-spec 740i M Sport offers the right mileage and the most desirable trim for long-term value retention.
