Summary

This 2024 GAC Emkoo GL presents a unique opportunity to own one of the most futuristic-looking SUVs in the GCC market at just two years old. Its mileage of 51,619 km is slightly above the regional annual average but typical for a car used for inter-city commutes between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the UAE, ensuring strong resale liquidity when you eventually decide to upgrade. Compared to rivals like the Haval H6 or Changan CS75 Plus, the Emkoo stands out with its aviation-inspired cockpit and distinctive 'Quantum Lightsaber' lighting. For a GCC owner, the standout feature is the localized cooling system with dedicated rear vents, essential for maintaining family comfort during peak summer months.

This Car vs Other 2024 EMKOOs

With 51,619 km on the odometer, this Emkoo has been driven more than the average weekend car but remains well within the expected wear for a two-year-old vehicle in the UAE. Its black paintwork is a strategic advantage for resale, as neutral colors consistently command faster sales and better prices in the local secondary market. While many listings might feature basic base trims, this GL variant offers the technological sweet spot most buyers look for.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim is a significant step up from the base GE, adding critical features that GCC buyers value, such as the 360-degree camera system for easier parking in tight urban spaces. Inside, the GL adds a 6-speaker premium audio system and ventilated front seats, which are a game-changer for driving in 45°C heat. It also includes the full ADAS safety suite, providing adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist that aren't always standard on entry-level versions.

EMKOO vs Segment Rivals

The Emkoo leads its class with a massive 638-litre boot, significantly outperforming the Toyota Corolla Cross for family cargo. Its 1.5-litre turbo engine produces 177 hp, offering a more spirited drive than the Geely Azkarra, while its wheelbase provides superior rear legroom for tall passengers. The mecha-inspired styling ensures it doesn't just blend into the crowd of generic crossovers at the mall.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 7.2 L/100km, though this may increase in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic where the AC runs at full capacity. GAC has established a strong authorized service presence across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with standard service intervals typically every 10,000 km. While Chinese brands face higher initial depreciation than Japanese rivals, the Emkoo's striking design and high feature-to-price ratio help it retain a loyal following in the used market.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine delivers a punchy 270 Nm of torque, making highway overtaking at 120 km/h effortless and safe. Mated to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, the power delivery is smooth and optimized for long-distance cruising between emirates. While it is front-wheel drive and built for the road, its 160mm ground clearance is more than enough to handle gravel tracks and sandy patches on the way to a weekend camping spot.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a high-tech sanctuary featuring a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and a digital instrument cluster. Rear passengers benefit from a flat floor and reclining seats, making it a genuinely comfortable five-seater for long family road trips. The GL trim's leatherette upholstery is durable and easy to clean, while the panoramic sunroof adds an airy, premium feel to the futuristic interior.

Safety

Safety is a priority with six airbags and a robust suite of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems standard on this trim. Features like autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning provide peace of mind on fast-moving GCC highways. The 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors are particularly helpful for navigating the large dimensions of the vehicle in busy city parking lots.

The bottom line

This 2024 GAC Emkoo GL is the perfect pick for a tech-forward family looking for a stylish, feature-packed SUV that still has plenty of life left for the GCC's long-distance driving demands.
