Summary

This 2024 GAC Empow GL represents a compelling entry into the modern sports sedan segment, blending aggressive styling with the practical requirements of the GCC market. With its current mileage reflecting a year of active highway use, the vehicle has already navigated the steepest part of its initial depreciation curve, offering significant value to the second owner. The unique Green exterior is a standout choice in a market dominated by white and silver, appealing to those who want a car with a distinct personality without sacrificing resale potential. Compared to traditional Japanese rivals, the Empow offers a much higher level of standard technology and interior refinement at a more accessible price point. For a GCC buyer, the most important consideration is the balance of factory warranty and the extensive service network provided by Gargash in the UAE and other regional distributors, ensuring peace of mind. This GL trim provides the ideal mix of daily comfort and sporty aesthetics, making it a highly rational choice for young professionals or small families.

This Car vs Other 2024 Empows

When looking at the 2024 GAC Empow market in the GCC, this specific vehicle sits in a unique position due to its mileage and specification. While 59,841 km is slightly above the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average for the region, it indicates a car that has been primarily used for long-distance highway commuting between Emirates, which is often easier on the engine and transmission than stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. The Green paint finish is a premium option that remains in high demand for this specific model, as it highlights the car's fighter-jet inspired design lines better than standard shades. Choosing a GCC-spec model like this one ensures that the cooling systems and air conditioning are specifically tuned for the extreme 45°C+ summer temperatures, a critical advantage over any imported alternatives. Furthermore, being a 2024 model, it retains the latest software updates and interior material improvements introduced for the current production cycle.

GL vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GL trim significantly transforms the ownership experience compared to the base variants found in the GCC market. This trim introduces a comprehensive suite of digital interfaces, including the dual-screen cockpit that provides a more immersive feel for the driver. Crucially for our climate, the GL often includes upgraded climate control logic and enhanced upholstery materials that breathe better during the peak summer months. You also benefit from more sophisticated driver assistance features and a 360-degree camera system, which makes navigating tight parking spots in busy malls across the UAE far simpler. The exterior is further distinguished by larger alloy wheels and more aggressive aerodynamic touches that give the GL a much more assertive road presence. Owners also appreciate the inclusion of keyless entry and start, features that add a layer of daily convenience that is often missing from the entry-level specifications.

Empow vs Segment Rivals

The GAC Empow competes in a crowded segment against the likes of the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, and Toyota Corolla, yet it carves out a niche by offering a 'sport-first' philosophy. While the traditional Japanese rivals focus on conservative utility, the Empow provides a cockpit-oriented interior that feels more akin to a European sports sedan. Its fuel tank capacity is generous for its class, allowing for fewer stops on long cross-border drives to Oman or Saudi Arabia. The cabin cooling performance is particularly noteworthy, designed to reach a comfortable temperature faster than many of its Korean competitors. Additionally, the Empow offers a level of standard safety tech that usually requires expensive optional packages on its rivals, making it a leader in tech-for-value. For a buyer who prioritizes modern aesthetics and a feature-rich environment over a basic badge, the GAC stands as the more sophisticated choice.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs for the Empow are remarkably efficient, with the 4-cylinder engine designed to balance spirited performance with low fuel consumption. In GCC conditions, you can expect highly competitive economy figures, particularly during highway cruising at 120 km/h where the engine operates in its most efficient range. GAC has established a strong presence across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, meaning that genuine parts and specialized technicians are readily available, preventing the long wait times often associated with newer brands. The resale value of the Empow has proven to be surprisingly resilient in the GCC, largely because it appeals to a growing demographic of younger buyers who value technology. While European sedans might lose value rapidly, the Empow follows a depreciation curve closer to established Asian brands, making it a safe financial harbor for a three-to-five-year ownership cycle. Regular service intervals are standard for the region, and the mechanical simplicity of the front-wheel-drive layout keeps long-term maintenance predictable and affordable.

Performance & Capability

The heart of the Empow GL is its turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant, which provides a punchy 100 hp and 1000cc displacement, optimized for efficient urban commuting and steady highway travel. While the figures are focused on efficiency, the transmission tuning ensures that power is delivered smoothly to the front wheels, making lane merging and overtaking on the E11 or E311 seamless. The car features multiple drive modes, allowing the driver to sharpen throttle response when a more engaging drive is desired or soften it for maximum fuel savings during the morning rush. The suspension is tuned specifically for the well-paved but often high-speed roads of the GCC, offering a stable and planted feel even at the upper limits of legal highway speeds. With a ground clearance typical of a modern sedan, it handles speed bumps and minor road imperfections with ease, ensuring a comfortable ride for all five passengers. The 0-100 km/h performance is perfectly adequate for the segment, ensuring the car never feels underpowered in standard traffic flow.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside the Empow GL, the focus is on a driver-centric layout that doesn't compromise on passenger comfort. The seating for five is spacious, with enough rear legroom to accommodate adults on longer journeys between cities. For the GCC owner, the high-output air conditioning system is the star of the show, featuring dedicated vents that ensure the cabin stays cool even under the direct midday sun. The materials used throughout the cabin are a mix of soft-touch surfaces and durable plastics designed to resist the high UV exposure common in the region. Acoustic insulation has been prioritized, keeping the drone of highway wind and tire noise to a minimum, which is essential for the long-distance driving culture of the Middle East. The infotainment system is intuitive and integrates perfectly with modern smartphones, providing navigation and entertainment at your fingertips. Every detail, from the ergonomic seat bolstering to the placement of the USB ports, has been considered to make the daily commute as stress-free as possible.

Safety

Safety is a paramount feature of the GAC Empow GL, which comes equipped with a comprehensive array of active and passive systems. The vehicle features a high-strength steel cage construction designed to provide maximum protection in the event of an impact, earning it top marks in safety testing. Standard features on this trim include multiple airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control, which are vital when encountering sand or sudden rain on the roads. The ADAS suite is particularly beneficial for GCC drivers, offering Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning to help mitigate the risks of high-speed highway travel. Blind-spot monitoring is a standard inclusion that provides an extra layer of security when navigating the fast-moving, multi-lane traffic typical of Dubai or Riyadh. These systems work together to create a safety net that is often only found in much more expensive luxury segments, ensuring that your family is protected at all times.

The bottom line

This 2024 GAC Empow GL is the perfect opportunity for a tech-savvy buyer to secure a modern, GCC-ready sedan that looks and feels significantly more expensive than it is. Given its 2024 model year and robust feature set, it stands as one of the best value-for-money propositions currently available in the used car market.
