Summary

This 2-year-old MG RX8 is a compelling find in the GCC market, offering a high-specification 7-seater experience with mileage that sits below the typical annual average for the region. The white exterior is a prime choice for UAE and Saudi buyers, as it significantly aids in heat rejection and holds its value better than darker hues at resale. As the Luxury trim, it provides a feature set usually reserved for much more expensive segment rivals, including a panoramic roof and comprehensive safety tech. For the value-conscious GCC family, this model balances rugged body-on-frame durability with a modern, tech-focused cabin that handles long desert highway stretches with ease.

This Car vs Other 2024 RX8s

With 49,015 km on the clock over two years, this RX8 has been driven less than the 25,000 km annual average often seen on GCC highways. This moderate usage means less wear on the suspension and interior compared to many high-mileage examples in the market. The white exterior is a strategic advantage for local buyers, ensuring both better thermal comfort in summer and a faster turnaround when you eventually decide to sell.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is the definitive choice for GCC owners, adding essential climate features like ventilated and heated front seats that the base trims lack. It further distinguishes itself with 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a 360-degree surround-view camera for easier parking, and a panoramic sunroof that brightens the entire three-row cabin. You also benefit from the full ADAS safety suite and a power tailgate, making it a much more premium daily driver.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 stands out against the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport by offering a significantly wider cabin and a genuinely usable third row with best-in-class legroom. Its 10.1-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto feels generations ahead of more traditional rivals at this price point. Furthermore, its 800 mm wading depth and intelligent 4WD system provide a level of off-road confidence that matches more expensive Japanese alternatives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L turbo engine typically averages around 10.5 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, with the 70-liter tank providing ample range for inter-city travel. MG has an established and growing authorized service network across the UAE, KSA, and Kuwait, with standard service intervals of 10,000 km or 12 months. While it depreciates slightly faster than legacy Japanese brands, the lower entry price on the used market makes it a high-value acquisition for second owners.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine producing 220 hp and 360 Nm of torque, the RX8 is tuned for smooth highway cruising and capable overtaking. The 4WD system features a dedicated low-range transfer case and six selectable terrain modes, including 4L and Off-Road, specifically designed for sandy and rocky GCC terrain. The body-on-frame construction provides the structural rigidity needed for weekend desert excursions while maintaining a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9.1 seconds.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features a theatre-style seating arrangement, ensuring rear passengers have a clear view of the road ahead, a detail that helps reduce motion sickness on long drives. Dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents and a separate rear control panel ensures all seven passengers stay cool during the peak of the Gulf summer. High-quality leather upholstery and an 8-speaker audio system round out a cabin environment that punches well above its weight class.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive in the Luxury trim, featuring a 5-star C-NCAP rating and a total of six airbags protecting all rows. Active systems include Lane Departure Warning, Electronic Stability Control, and Active Rollover Protection, which are particularly vital for high-riding SUVs on fast-moving UAE highways. The 360-degree camera and front/rear sensors provide full visibility, eliminating the typical blind spots associated with large family vehicles.

The bottom line

For a GCC family seeking a nearly-new, high-spec SUV that can handle both the school run and the dunes without the premium price of a Japanese rival, this low-mileage Luxury trim is an excellent opportunity.
