Summary

This 2024 Nissan Patrol Super Safari is a rare opportunity to own a modern legend in its most desirable GCC configuration. As one of the final production years for the iconic Y61 generation, this manual transmission example offers a mechanical purity that is increasingly hard to find in the region. The White exterior is widely considered the strongest resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabian markets, ensuring long-term value retention. Built for the desert but refined with Super Safari luxuries, this SUV remains the go-to choice for serious enthusiasts who prioritize mechanical reliability over complex electronics. For any GCC buyer, the combination of the 4.8L VTC engine and a manual gearbox represents the ultimate expression of the 'King of the Off-Road.'

This Car vs Other 2024 Patrols

With the 2024 model year representing the tail end of the Y61's legendary production run, this vehicle sits at the peak of the model's development. While typical annual mileage for a GCC SUV ranges between 20,000 and 25,000 km, many 2024 Super Safaris in the market are held as collector items or low-use weekend vehicles. The White paint is a tactical advantage for the local climate, as it reflects heat more efficiently than darker tones and commands the highest demand in the secondary market.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim significantly upgrades the ownership experience over the standard Safari, adding a tan leather interior with power-adjustable seats and a built-in refrigerated cool box essential for summer drives. It also features a power sunroof and unique 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels that distinguish it from lower models. For the off-roading enthusiast, the inclusion of a factory winch and rear differential lock as standard equipment provides a level of capability that would require expensive aftermarket modifications on base trims.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

In the GCC, the Patrol Super Safari is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series and the Jeep Wrangler. While rivals offer ruggedness, the Patrol leads with a superior 135-litre fuel tank capacity (including a sub-tank) for cross-country desert expeditions and a more comfortable coil-sprung ride. Its inline-six engine is famously over-engineered, providing a more stable and tunable platform for high-heat conditions compared to the V6 alternatives found in competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The Super Safari is known for exceptional value retention, typically depreciating only 8-10% annually in the UAE market. While fuel consumption reflects the high-displacement 4.8L engine—averaging roughly 17L/100km in mixed GCC driving—the trade-off is legendary reliability and low maintenance costs. Nissan’s authorized service network is among the most comprehensive in the region, with parts readily available from Abu Dhabi to Muscat, ensuring that even long-term ownership remains stress-free.

Performance & Capability

The 280 hp TB48DE engine delivers a massive 451 Nm of torque, which is perfectly harnessed by the 5-speed manual transmission for total control in deep sand. With a factory ground clearance of 215 mm and specialized approach angles, it is purpose-built for weekend expeditions to the Liwa Oasis or the Empty Quarter. The manual gearbox is particularly prized by local drivers for its durability and ability to hold gears during technical dune climbs where automatic systems might hunt for shifts.

Comfort & Cabin

Despite its rugged exterior, the cabin is designed for long-distance GCC road trips with seating for seven and dedicated rear AC vents to combat extreme temperatures. The tan leather upholstery features Super Safari embossing, adding a premium feel to the retro-styled dashboard. A factory-fitted refrigerator in the center console keeps drinks chilled during desert treks, while the updated touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay ensures modern connectivity during the daily commute.

Safety

Standard safety features include dual front SRS airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), which is vital for maintaining stability on high-speed desert highways. The trim also includes a tire pressure monitoring system and front and rear parking sensors with a rearview camera, making the vehicle surprisingly manageable in tight city parking despite its substantial footprint.

The bottom line

This manual Super Safari is the definitive choice for a buyer who wants the most capable version of a discontinued icon before it leaves the market for good. It offers a rare blend of collector-grade potential and unmatched desert performance that simply cannot be replicated by modern crossovers.
