Summary

This 2024 V6 model represents a strategic entry point into the most respected SUV lineage in the Middle East. With its black exterior and GCC-specific engineering, it is perfectly suited for both regional resale markets and the harsh local climate. The 4.0-liter V6 configuration is widely regarded as the pragmatic choice for daily commuting across the Emirates, offering a balance of power and efficiency that the larger displacements can't match. As a brand-new model year with high seating capacity, it offers the prestige of the latest body style without the inflated premium of the higher-tier trims. This specific vehicle is a strong buy because it provides the essential mechanical hardware that has made this model a legend in the desert, while maintaining a configuration that is easier to maintain and fuel. For a GCC buyer, the primary consideration is the legendary reliability and the fact that this vehicle holds its value better than almost any other SUV on the road today.

This Car vs Other 2024 Patrols

When comparing this car to other 2024 listings in the GCC, the primary advantage is its current 'as-new' status relative to the high annual mileage typically seen in this region. While the average SUV in the UAE or Saudi Arabia covers roughly 25,000 km per year, this vehicle presents an opportunity to start from a clean slate. The black exterior is a high-demand color in the local used market, often commanding a quicker sale and better price retention than more experimental shades. Buyers looking at other 2024 models will find that this V6-powered version offers a significantly more accessible entry point into the latest production cycle. It bridges the gap between a rugged workhorse and a modern family hauler perfectly. Choosing this specific unit allows a buyer to benefit from the full remaining lifespan of its mechanical components under local conditions.

XE vs Lower Trims

The XE trim serves as the foundation of the lineup, but it is far from basic. It includes the essential 4WD hardware that buyers in the GCC expect, such as the electronic rear differential lock which is often missing from entry-level competitors. Over more basic utility-focused versions found in other markets, this GCC-spec XE provides an upgraded infotainment interface and dedicated climate controls for all three rows. It also features high-quality fabric seating that stays much cooler in the 45-degree Celsius summer heat compared to darker leather options. You are getting the same robust chassis and suspension tuning as the top-tier trims, but without the complex air-suspension systems that can be costly to maintain once out of warranty. This trim is favored by those who want the pure mechanical capability of a legendary SUV with modern conveniences like keyless entry and push-button start.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

In the GCC, the main competition comes from the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Chevrolet Tahoe. While the Tahoe offers a great highway ride, it cannot match the off-road heritage and sand-dune performance of this vehicle's sophisticated All-Mode 4WD system. Against the Land Cruiser, this model is frequently praised for its superior interior width and more generous third-row legroom, making it the better choice for large families. It also features a larger fuel tank capacity than many European rivals, which is a critical feature for long-distance drives across the Arabian Peninsula. The suspension is specifically tuned to handle the washboard vibrations of desert tracks better than the more street-oriented Ford Expedition. For buyers who prioritize a car that iconizes Middle Eastern culture, this model stands alone.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for this V6 variant are remarkably predictable. Fuel consumption in stop-start city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai is optimized by the 7-speed automatic transmission, while highway cruising is efficient enough to make cross-country trips affordable. This model uses a standard petrol grade widely available at every station in the region. Service intervals are every 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, parts are always available and reasonably priced. Historically, this model has the lowest depreciation in its class, often retaining up to 85% of its value after the first three years. This makes it a safer financial investment than European luxury SUVs, which can lose value twice as fast. It is widely considered 'cash on wheels' in the GCC used market.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0-liter V6 engine provides a robust 275 horsepower and 394 Nm of torque, which is more than enough for high-speed highway overtaking and heavy-duty towing. Its most impressive feature is the All-Mode 4X4 system that allows the driver to switch between sand, on-road, snow, and rock modes at the turn of a dial. This makes it as capable of navigating the dunes of Liwa as it is the urban streets of Abu Dhabi. With 273mm of ground clearance, it easily clears obstacles that would stop a standard crossover. The 7-speed automatic transmission is tuned for the high temperatures of the region, ensuring that gear shifts remain smooth even when under heavy load in extreme heat. For those who enjoy weekend expeditions, this car offers a towing capacity of 2,000kg, making it perfect for jet skis or trailers.

Comfort & Cabin

This is a true 8-seater, designed with the large GCC family in mind. The cabin is specifically engineered to combat the regional heat, featuring a dual-zone climate control system with rear-seat vents that are widely considered the most powerful in the industry. Even in the middle of a July afternoon, the interior reaches a comfortable temperature within minutes. The seating layout allows for easy access to the third row, which provides enough legroom for adults on shorter trips and is ideal for children on long drives. Interior insulation has been enhanced for this model year to reduce wind and road noise during fast highway commutes. The boot space is versatile, with fold-flat rear seats that can accommodate massive grocery hauls or camping gear for desert trips. Large cup holders and ample storage bins reflect its design as a long-distance cruiser.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of this SUV, which holds a 5-star rating across major international testing bodies. It comes standard with a comprehensive airbag system and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, which is vital for maintaining control when braking on sandy or uneven surfaces. For the fast-moving multi-lane highways of the UAE, the Hill Start Assist and Descent Control provide added confidence in varied terrain. The vehicle's high seating position provides an commanding view of the road, allowing for better anticipatory driving. Traction control and Vehicle Dynamic Control are calibrated to intervene subtly but effectively on both slippery tarmac and loose gravel. These active systems work together to ensure that even a vehicle of this size remains stable and predictable in emergency maneuvers.

The bottom line

This 2024 V6 XE is the most sensible way to own a legendary piece of GCC motoring culture. It offers the perfect mix of modern reliability, massive interior space, and unbeatable resale value, making it an ideal choice for a growing family or a savvy investor.
