Summary

This 2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road represents a rare opportunity to own a nearly-new example of a legendary nameplate that is currently in its final production year for this iconic generation. With exceptionally low mileage relative to the typical GCC annual average of 25,000 km, this vehicle offers the mechanical freshness of a showroom model with a significant initial depreciation advantage already cleared. The TRD Off-Road trim is highly coveted in the region for its mechanical superiority over the base models, featuring dedicated hardware that makes it one of the few vehicles truly capable of transitioning from Dubai’s highways to the Liwa dunes without modification. While its rivals have moved toward complex turbocharged engines, this model retains the bulletproof 4.0L V6 that local workshops and parts suppliers across the UAE and Saudi Arabia know intimately. For a buyer looking for a blend of modern 2024 technology and the legendary durability that Toyota is known for in the Middle East, this blue SUV stands out as a robust long-term asset. Ownership of a 4Runner in the GCC is as much about peace of mind as it is about capability, ensuring you have a vehicle that holds its value better than almost any other SUV in its segment.

This Car vs Other 2024 4Runners

When comparing this specific 2024 4Runner to others currently available in the GCC market, the first thing that stands out is the odometer reading. At just 8,230 km, this vehicle has seen less than half the usage of even the most conservatively driven local cars for this model year. In a market where high-speed highway commuting between emirates can easily add 30,000 km to a car in its first year, finding a 2024 model with such limited wear is a distinct advantage for the next owner's resale value. The vibrant blue exterior is a refreshing departure from the sea of white and silver typically found in regional car parks, offering a unique aesthetic while remaining a highly tradable color for the off-road community. Mechanically, being a 2024 model means it benefits from the very final refinements Toyota made to this generation, ensuring all software and safety calibrations are at their most advanced stage. This is a collector-quality example of the current generation that is ready for immediate use without the wait times often associated with new imports.

TRD Off-Road vs Lower Trims

Choosing the TRD Off-Road trim over the standard SR5 or SR5 Premium provides a significant upgrade in technical capability that GCC enthusiasts specifically look for. Unlike the lower trims, this version includes a locking rear differential as standard, which is an essential tool for recovering the vehicle or maintaining momentum in soft desert sand. You also gain the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which allows for greater wheel articulation off-road while maintaining incredible stability on high-speed paved roads—a perfect balance for UAE driving. The interior of the TRD Off-Road also feels more purposeful, with unique branding and specialized drive-mode selectors like Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control located on the overhead console. These features are not just for show; they actively manage engine throttle and braking to help you navigate technical terrain that would stop a standard SUV in its tracks. For the serious GCC buyer, these mechanical additions represent a value that far exceeds the price gap between trims, particularly when it comes time to sell to the local off-roading community.

4Runner vs Segment Rivals

In the competitive mid-size SUV market, the 4Runner stands apart from rivals like the Ford Explorer or the Jeep Grand Cherokee by adhering to a body-on-frame construction. While the Explorer has shifted toward a more car-like unibody design for on-road comfort, the 4Runner retains its truck-based roots, giving it a massive advantage in durability and long-term chassis rigidity when frequently driven on gravel or sand. Compared to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 4Runner offers a much simpler and more reliable powertrain that is less prone to the electrical complexities often seen in modern American alternatives. The 4Runner's cargo area is also notably more functional, featuring a flat-loading floor and a unique power-sliding rear window that is a favorite for ventilation and easy access—a feature none of its direct competitors offer. While some rivals may offer more screens, the 4Runner leads in the areas that matter most to GCC owners: cooling efficiency, parts availability, and the ability to withstand the extreme heat of a Middle Eastern summer without mechanical fatigue.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 engine is a masterpiece of reliability, though it is important to note its fuel consumption reflects its heavy-duty nature. In typical GCC stop-start city traffic in places like Riyadh or Dubai, you can expect consumption around 14.5 L/100km, which improves significantly to approximately 11.8 L/100km during long-distance highway cruises across the emirates. The real-world advantage here is that this engine runs perfectly on 95-octane fuel and does not require the premium grades or specialized oils often demanded by European turbocharged rivals. Maintenance is straightforward, with a massive network of authorized service centers and independent Toyota specialists spanning the entire GCC, ensuring you are never far from expert care. Historically, the 4Runner has one of the lowest depreciation rates in the world, and this holds true in the UAE market where Toyotas often retain up to 85% of their value after three years. Because this is the final year of this specific engine and body style, many enthusiasts predict that these 2024 models will hold their value even better than previous years as they become sought-after modern classics.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood, the 272 hp V6 provides a linear and predictable power delivery that is perfectly suited for both highway overtaking and low-speed crawling in the dunes. The 0-100 km/h time of approximately 7.7 seconds is respectable for a vehicle of this size and weight, but the real performance metric is the 377 Nm of torque, which provides ample pulling power for towing trailers or climbing steep inclines. With a ground clearance of 244 mm, this SUV can clear obstacles that would damage the undercarriage of most crossovers, making it a favorite for weekend expeditions to Jebel Jais or the Sharjah deserts. The Four-Wheel Drive system is robust, featuring a manual transfer case in this trim that gives the driver a tactile connection to the vehicle's mechanical state. Whether you are navigating a flash flood in a wadi or cruising at 140 km/h on the E11, the 4Runner feels planted and indestructible. Its cooling system is also specifically over-engineered, ensuring that the engine and transmission temperatures remain stable even when the ambient temperature outside exceeds 50°C during the peak of summer.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 4Runner TRD Off-Road offers a cabin designed for durability without sacrificing modern essentials. The five-seat layout provides expansive legroom for both front and rear passengers, making it an excellent choice for family road trips between Dubai and Muscat. The air conditioning system is legendary in the GCC for its ability to pull down cabin temperatures in minutes, even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. This trim features high-quality materials that are easy to clean after a day in the sand, and the tactile knobs for volume and climate control are easy to operate even if you are wearing driving gloves. The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, ensuring your navigation and music are always synchronized. Sound insulation has been improved for the 2024 model year, making the cabin surprisingly quiet for a body-on-frame vehicle at highway speeds. The 1,300+ liters of cargo space behind the second row means you can easily fit camping gear, groceries, and sports equipment simultaneously.

Safety

Safety in the 2024 4Runner is comprehensive, anchored by the Toyota Safety Sense suite which comes standard on this American-spec model. This includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, which is invaluable for city driving, and Lane Departure Alert to keep you focused during long desert highway stretches. The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is a standout feature for GCC drivers, as it automatically adjusts your speed to maintain a safe gap from the vehicle ahead during the commute between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert provide an extra layer of protection when navigating busy multi-lane roads or crowded parking lots. With eight airbags and a reinforced steel frame, the 4Runner provides a sense of security that few other vehicles can match. It also features an advanced Star Safety System, which includes Traction Control and Smart Stop Technology, ensuring the vehicle remains under control even in emergency maneuvers on sand-covered asphalt.

The bottom line

This 2024 4Runner TRD Off-Road is the perfect choice for the GCC buyer who wants the very last of a legendary, bulletproof generation with almost no mileage on the clock. It offers a unique combination of high resale value, unmatched off-road hardware, and the reliability needed to conquer the Middle Eastern climate for decades to come.
