Summary

This 2025 Geely Coolray GL offers a modern crossover experience with the refined 4-cylinder turbocharged engine introduced for the latest model years. Finished in Grey—a high-resale color in the GCC that masks desert dust effectively—it presents as a tech-forward choice for urban commuters. While the mileage is higher than the annual GCC average, it reflects the vehicle's suitability for long-distance highway travel between Emirates. For buyers in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, the Coolray stands out due to its rapid brand growth and the extensive authorized service support now available across the region. It remains one of the most competitive subcompact SUVs for those prioritizing quick acceleration and a digital-first cabin at a smart price point.

This Car vs Other 2025 Coolrays

With 83,394 km on the odometer, this Coolray has seen more road time than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual GCC average. However, in the local market, this high mileage is often a sign of consistent highway use, which is less taxing on the 7-speed DCT than stop-start city traffic. The Grey exterior is a significant advantage for resale, as it remains a top-three preferred color across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim serves as the gateway to the 2025 model's improved 4-cylinder refinement, providing the same 172 hp output as higher variants. While it foregoes the ambient lighting and ventilated seats of the GF+, it retains the essential 540° camera system—a specialized GCC-favorite feature that provides a 'transparent chassis' view for navigating tight parking and obstacles. You get the upgraded 290 Nm torque profile without the premium cost of the range-topping technology suites.

Coolray vs Segment Rivals

The Coolray leads segment rivals like the MG ZS and Nissan Kicks in raw performance, offering a significantly faster 0-100 km/h time and a more advanced wet dual-clutch transmission. While Japanese rivals focus on conservative durability, the Geely provides a much larger digital cockpit and a more aggressive 'Energy Storm' design language that appeals to the region's younger demographic. Its 45-litre tank is optimized for a segment-leading balance between city efficiency and highway range.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy typically averages between 6.3 and 8.2 L/100km in GCC conditions, depending on heavy air-conditioning use during summer months. Geely has established a strong authorized network through AGMC in the UAE and Wallan in Saudi Arabia, with standard service intervals of 10,000 km. The Coolray currently retains approximately 60% of its value after three years in the GCC, performing well for the Chinese SUV segment as brand trust continues to mature locally.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood, the 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers a punchy 172 hp and 290 Nm of torque, enabling effortless overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. The 7-speed wet DCT is specifically tuned to handle the high ambient temperatures of the Middle East, offering smoother shifts than earlier 3-cylinder versions. Four distinct drive modes, including a 'Smart' mode, adapt the steering and throttle response to suit either congested urban traffic in Riyadh or open highway cruises to Abu Dhabi.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features a suspended double-screen layout that brings a premium tech feel to the subcompact class. Designed for the GCC climate, the air conditioning system includes dedicated rear vents to ensure passenger comfort during peak summer heat. Despite its compact footprint, the BMA platform provides 330 liters of boot space and a flat-folding rear seat configuration, making it a practical choice for small families or weekend errands.

Safety

Safety is managed by a high-strength steel cage and a comprehensive suite of active systems, including Electronic Stability Control and Hill Hold Control, which are vital for maintaining traction on sand-dusted road surfaces. This trim includes the highly useful 540° panoramic view system and rear parking sensors as standard. These features provide exceptional visibility in the fast-paced, multi-lane driving environments common throughout the GCC.

The bottom line

This 2025 Coolray is a sharp opportunity for a buyer who wants a nearly new, high-performance crossover with a proven service history in the GCC. It offers the latest 4-cylinder refinement and top-tier camera tech at a price point that acknowledges its highway-heavy mileage.
