Summary

This 2025 Geely Starray GL is a standout choice for GCC buyers looking for a modern crossover that balances performance with cutting-edge tech. With just over 50,000 km, it has been driven slightly more than the average UAE annual mileage but remains well within the window for reliable long-term ownership. The 2.0L turbocharged engine offers a significant power advantage over rivals in the compact segment, making it highly capable for both city traffic in Riyadh and high-speed commutes between Emirates. Its Blue exterior is a refreshing, high-resale choice that holds up well against the regional sun. As a GCC-spec model, it is fully optimized for the extreme summer heat, ensuring the air conditioning and cooling systems perform exactly as required in the region.

This Car vs Other 2025 Starrays

With 50,320 km on the odometer, this Starray has seen active highway use, which is common for family SUVs in the GCC region. While this is slightly higher than the typical 20,000 km per year average, it indicates the vehicle has been regularly maintained for long-distance driving. The Blue exterior provides a distinct advantage in the used market, offering a premium look that retains value better than more common flat colors.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim serves as a well-equipped entry point, but it still features the high-output 2.0L turbo engine found in higher specifications. It includes essential GCC features like the massive 13.2-inch vertical infotainment screen and LED Particle Ray headlights. Unlike some base trims in the segment, the GL maintains a premium feel with quality upholstery and the full suite of digital cockpit displays that define the Starray's futuristic cabin.

Starray vs Segment Rivals

The Starray leads competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage in terms of raw technology and interior screen real estate. Its 218 hp output is notably higher than the naturally aspirated engines found in base-model Japanese rivals, providing much better overtaking confidence on multi-lane GCC highways. Additionally, its futuristic 'Vision Starburst' design language gives it a more contemporary road presence than more conservative segment veterans.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L turbo engine is approximately 6.7 L/100km on combined cycles, making it efficient for a car with this power output. Geely's expanding authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait ensures that parts and maintenance are easily accessible. The Starray is showing strong value retention in the GCC market, typically holding about 78-80% of its value after the first year, which is highly competitive for the mid-size SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0L turbocharged engine delivers a brisk 0–100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds, which is impressive for a front-wheel-drive SUV of this size. With 325 Nm of torque available early in the rev range, it handles the stop-start traffic of Dubai and Doha with ease. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is tuned for smooth highway cruising, ensuring comfort during long-distance trips across the UAE borders.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Starray offers a spacious 5-seat layout with a segment-leading 650-liter boot, ideal for family grocery runs or weekend staycations. The powerful climate control system is specifically designed for the GCC, featuring rear vents to keep all passengers cool during peak summer. The cabin is dominated by a 13.2-inch tablet-style screen that handles navigation and media with a highly intuitive interface.

Safety

Safety is a primary strength of the Starray, which boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Standard equipment on this trim includes multiple airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control, which are vital for maintaining grip on sandy or oil-slicked road surfaces. The reinforced body structure and Advanced Emergency Braking provide an extra layer of protection for family commuters on fast-moving regional motorways.

The bottom line

This 2025 Geely Starray GL is the perfect opportunity for a tech-focused buyer who wants a nearly new, high-performance SUV without the first-year depreciation hit. It remains one of the most stylish and safest crossovers currently available in the GCC used market.
