Intoxicatingly fast, comfortable over long distances and blessed with exceptional balanced, accessible handling it manages to be both a relaxed grand tourer and an inspiring sports car. It’s clever too. The turbos sit in the middle of the V-8 Engine, which makes the engine incredibly small. And that means it can be located low down and behind the front axle, for a lower centre of gravity and better weight distribution. There’s more race like stuff, too, because the seven-speed gearbox sits at the back of the car, being fed by a carbon-fibre prop shaft.
Inside? It’s close to faultless, really. That effect solidifies inside where the designers, apparently unbounded by compromise, have swept a chin-high grandstand of a spectacle-dashboard around the driver. The centre console is something else, Mercedes’ usual shortcut of C, S, S+ and Race is also present.
