Fiat Scudo

Introduction

The Fiat Scudo, first introduced in 1996, is a mid-sized light commercial vehicle developed in collaboration with PSA Group. Positioned between the smaller Fiat Doblo and the larger Ducato, it was designed to serve both professional and passenger transport needs. Available as a panel van, passenger minibus, and combi versions, the Scudo became popular among small businesses and fleet operators. A second generation arrived in 2007, followed by later iterations built on modern platforms to enhance practicality and efficiency.

Safety Features

The Fiat Scudo was equipped with standard safety features such as ABS brakes, driver airbags, and reinforced structural protection. Later models added passenger airbags, electronic stability control, and traction control. Parking sensors and hill-start assist were also available in newer generations. Engine Trims

The Scudo was offered with a variety of diesel engines, including 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter Multijet units, producing outputs ranging from 90 hp to 163 hp depending on the variant. Petrol engines were available in early models but became rare in later generations. Transmissions included five- and six-speed manuals, as well as automated manuals in some trims. These engines prioritized efficiency, torque, and long-distance durability.

The Fiat Scudo was designed for professional use, meaning maintenance was straightforward and cost-effective. Diesel engines required regular servicing, particularly for the turbocharger and fuel injection system. Its wide distribution across Europe and other regions ensured spare parts availability. Competitors

The Fiat Scudo competed with the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy, and Ford Transit Custom. The Expert and Jumpy shared its platform due to the PSA partnership, while the Transit Custom offered Ford’s strong market presence. Fiat distinguished the Scudo with Italian styling touches, versatile configurations, and affordability, making it an appealing choice in the mid-sized van category.
