Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Overview

Mercedes-AMG has a history of creating exclusive high-performance Black Series vehicles, starting with the SLK 55 AMG Black Series in 2006, featuring a 5.5-litre V8 engine with 400hp. In 2007, the CLK 63 AMG Black Series followed, based on the AMG Official F1 Safety Car, boasting a powerful 6.3-litre V8 engine with 507hp and aggressive design elements.

In 2008, the SL 65 AMG Black Series was introduced, featuring a 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine producing 670 hp and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. The C 63 AMG Coupé Black continued the tradition in 2012 with 517hp, adjustable suspension, and a high-performance braking system. In 2013, the SLS AMG Black Series, inspired by the SLS AMG GT3 racing car, boasted a 6.3-litre V8 engine with 631hp, achieving a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds and impressive dynamics. Want to read more on the history of AMG GT? AMG GT Black Series’ Race-Inspired Performance

Mercedes-Benz wanted to create the fastest and most powerful version of the AMG GT. Instead of looking to upgrade their previous fast car, the AMG GT R Pro, they went to their GT3 racing car and made it homologated for road use. Now that’s what we call going all out!

Under the bonnet of the GT Black Series is a reworked version of the famed 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Here are some exceptional power figures and performance establishing itself as one of the fastest production cars:

  • Max Power: 730hp @ 6900rpm
  • Peak Torque: 800Nm @ 2000rpm – 6000rpm
  • Drive: Rear Wheels
  • 0 to 100km/h: 3.2 seconds
  • Top Speed: 325km/h

Additionally, the GT Black Series features an array of engine internal component changes, including upgraded pistons, rods, camshafts, a revised exhaust system and a flat-plane crankshaft to keep the rotating masses in check extracting maximum performance with minimal mechanical losses.

The mind-bending performance is supported by an adaptive suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and extensive aerodynamic enhancements to ensure it can navigate corners with remarkable precision and agility. The car’s chassis and suspension have undergone meticulous fine-tuning to maximize grip and stability, cementing its position as an exceptional contender on both the racetrack and open roads.

Finally, Mercedes tops it off with the inclusion of specially designed tyres from Michelin. There are a couple of compound options available for the owner to choose from as well.

AMG GT Black Series’ Race-Inspired Design

As the GT Black Series is inspired by the GT3 race car, the radical exterior design is mostly function over form. However, Mercedes-Benz has managed to make the functional design a head-turner.

Starting with its appearance, the AMG GT Black Series features an array of aerodynamic enhancements. The front grille is wider and more open, allowing for improved airflow and engine cooling. A prominent carbon fibre hood with a central scoop not only reduces weight but also enhances engine cooling. Flared wheel arches house lightweight forged alloy wheels, which are wrapped in high-performance tires for maximum grip.

Moving towards the rear, you’ll notice a massive carbon fibre rear wing that not only generates substantial downforce but also contributes to the car’s distinctive look. The rear diffuser and quad exhaust pipes complete the aggressive rear-end styling. This car’s sleek lines and pronounced curves are not just for aesthetics; they are meticulously designed to enhance stability and handling at high speeds.

As for construction, the GT Black Series extensively utilizes lightweight materials like carbon fibre. The body panels, including the roof, hood, and various aerodynamic components, are made from carbon fibre to reduce weight while maintaining structural rigidity. The use of lightweight materials, combined with advanced engineering, contributes to the car’s remarkable power-to-weight ratio, which is crucial for its blistering performance on the track.

AMG GT Black Series’ Luxury Interiors

Mercedes-Benz has pulled off a stunner with the Black Series’ interiors. Often, hunkered-down track-focused supercars are deprived of luxuries on the inside. The AMG GT Black Series does not follow that route. Instead, it is a tech-fest on the inside and comes loaded with features, premium materials and updated technology for easy everyday use and convenience.

  • Taking centre stage are two displays: a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch for the infotainment.
  • The infotainment features the latest MBUX technology and several track-focused options.
  • The GT Black Series is equipped with lightweight, high-performance bucket seats designed to provide excellent support during spirited driving.
  • High-quality materials such as premium leather, Alcantara, and carbon fibre trim are used throughout the cabin, adding a touch of luxury to the sporty ambience.
  • The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara for better grip and a sportier feel, with integrated controls for various vehicle functions.
  • The centre console features a series of buttons and switches, allowing the driver to adjust various driving modes, traction control settings, and suspension settings on the fly.

Although not an official number, there are only around 1,700 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series cars in the world.
