Summary

This 2000 Toyota Hiace is a quintessential example of the legendary H100 generation, a model that built Toyota's reputation for indestructible commercial vehicles in the GCC. Finished in the highly desirable and heat-reflective White, it features an eight-seat configuration and the reliable 2.4L petrol engine. With approximately 157,300 km on the clock, this van has seen significantly less use than typical commercial examples of this vintage. Its Japanese regional specification ensures a high standard of original build quality, making it a reliable choice for family transport or business logistics. For a buyer in the Emirates, the Hiace remains the gold standard for parts availability and mechanical simplicity.

This Car vs Other 2000 Hiaces

While many Hiaces from the turn of the millennium have surpassed the 400,000 km mark in commercial service, this example’s mileage of 157,300 km is remarkably low for its age in the GCC market. The White exterior is the most sought-after color for resale in the region, as it better manages the extreme summer temperatures and maintains paint clarity longer than darker shades. Being a Japanese-spec petrol model, it offers a smoother driving experience than the high-vibration diesel variants often found in the secondary market.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The Standard trim on this Hiace provides the essential durability required for GCC operations, focusing on mechanical reliability over complex electronics. It includes full-length cabin flooring and robust cloth upholstery designed to withstand high-occupancy use. This trim level is favored by long-term owners because it lacks the complicated air-suspension or electronic modules found in 'Super Custom' trims, which can become maintenance-heavy as the vehicle ages in desert climates.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Toyota Hiace leads the 1990s and early 2000s van segment primarily through its unmatched parts ecosystem across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Compared to rivals like the Nissan Urvan or Mitsubishi L300 of the same era, the Hiace offers superior vertical interior space and a more accessible engine bay for simplified maintenance. Its rear-wheel-drive layout provides better traction when fully loaded with eight passengers, a key advantage for trans-emirate travel.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 2.4L petrol engine typically averages between 11L and 13L/100km depending on the load, making it a predictable runner for city and highway use. As a Toyota, this model benefits from the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, with Al Futtaim (UAE) and Abdul Latif Jameel (KSA) providing comprehensive parts support even for classic generations. The Hiace H100 series has a unique depreciation curve in the GCC; it has largely hit its price floor and tends to hold its value exceptionally well due to high export demand and local utility.

Performance & Capability

The 2RZ-E engine produces 120 hp and 198 Nm of torque, providing the steady, low-end power needed for navigating urban stop-start traffic and carrying full passenger loads. Its rear-wheel-drive configuration and robust leaf-spring rear suspension are engineered for durability rather than outright speed, ensuring the chassis stays composed even when the 8-seat cabin is at capacity. With a generous ground clearance of approximately 190mm, it easily handles speed humps and unpaved site access roads common in expanding GCC neighborhoods.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured as a spacious 8-seater, offering a flat floor that allows for easy movement between rows. Toyota’s high-output air conditioning system is a hallmark of this era, featuring dedicated vents to ensure the rear passengers remain comfortable during the peak summer months. The Japanese-spec interior materials are noted for their longevity, with heavy-duty plastics and fabrics that resist UV-related fading and cracking better than many contemporary rivals.

Safety

Safety in this generation of Hiace is focused on fundamental structural integrity and reliable braking. It features ventilated front discs and rear drum brakes for consistent stopping power under load. As a Japanese-market specification, it includes side-impact protection beams and high-visibility halogen headlamps, which are essential for navigating unlit desert highways at night.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage, petrol-powered H100 Hiace that has escaped the heavy commercial wear typical of this model. It is the ideal purchase for a GCC buyer who prioritizes mechanical immortality and ease of service over modern gadgets.
