Honda had a strong Formula 1 presence in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, having provided engines for the Williams and McLaren racing teams. This gave them the opportunity to utilize the expertise of the legendary Ayrton Senna to develop a new supercar to compete against its more exotic contemporaries, especially the Ferrari 328 and 348. The result of these efforts was the Honda NSX, a car that earned countless praise for the rigidity of its chassis, agile handling, and ergonomic cockpit resembling that of an F-16 fighter jet. Even Gordon Murray, one of the UK’s most influential car designers, cited the NSX as a major inspiration for his masterpiece, the McLaren F1.
During its production run from 1990 to 2005, the first-generation Acura NSX saw several mechanical refinements. Early models used a 3.0L DOHC V6 (C30A) making around 270 hp with Honda’s VTEC system, paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. In 1997, the engine was upgraded to a larger 3.2L V6 (C32B) producing about 290 hp, and the manual transmission gained a sixth gear for improved performance. Other updates included a lighter, stronger aluminum suspension and, in some markets, the adoption of a fixed roof and stiffer chassis with the NSX-T and NSX-R variants, enhancing handling while keeping the original’s balanced mid-engine layout intact.
This particular NSX-T was delivered to its first owner on July 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland. The car subsequently sold again the next year to its second owner in Pennsylvania, who kept it until mid-2025, when we acquired it. Over two decades of prior ownership, the car has been religiously maintained at the local Acura dealer, and kept in supremely original condition. Finished in an unusual shade of dark silver, this car has covered less than 7,000 miles and is ready for a discerning collector to be its next custodian.
