Summary

This 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 represents the peak of modern American muscle in an SUV body, featuring the legendary 6.1L Hemi engine. With relatively average mileage for its age in the GCC, this silver example remains a highly desirable performance icon due to its simple, naturally aspirated power and mechanical reliability. While standard Grand Cherokees focus on off-road utility, the SRT8 is a dedicated road-performance machine equipped with Bilstein shocks and Brembo brakes as standard. For a UAE buyer, this trim offers a rare combination of practical five-seat SUV space and genuine sports car acceleration that holds its own on fast-moving highways.

This Car vs Other 2009 Grand Cherokees

With 184,000 km, this SRT8 sits right at the expected average for a 15-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where 20,000 km per year is the standard for highway-heavy use. Silver remains one of the most practical and high-resale colors in the region, effectively masking dust and reflecting desert heat better than darker alternatives. Finding a GCC-spec SRT8 from this era with these kilometers is a significant advantage, as many are imported from North America with unclear histories.

SRT8 vs Lower Trims

The SRT8 is a massive leap over the Limited or Overland trims, replacing the standard Quadra-Drive II system with a specialized on-road performance AWD setup for maximum launch grip. It features deep-bolstered SRT sports seats, a unique center-exit dual exhaust system, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels that are not available on any other variant. The performance-tuned Bilstein suspension and Brembo braking system are factory-standard, turning a family SUV into a precision-handling performance vehicle.

Grand Cherokee vs Segment Rivals

In the 2009 performance SUV market, the SRT8 competed directly with the Porsche Cayenne GTS and the BMW X5 4.8i. It leads these rivals in raw straight-line acceleration and simpler mechanical maintenance, avoiding the complex air suspension systems that often fail in extreme GCC heat. The Hemi V8 provides a more visceral, old-school power delivery that German rivals of the same era struggled to match without turbocharging.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 6.1L Hemi averages around 16.5 L/100km combined, which is expected for a high-output V8 in GCC city traffic. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 to 12,000 km, and the mechanical simplicity of the OHV Hemi engine makes parts widely available and affordable across the UAE. The SRT8 trim specifically enjoys much higher value retention compared to standard Jeep models, as it has transitioned into a sought-after modern classic among GCC enthusiasts.

Performance & Capability

The headline figure is the 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.0 seconds, a feat that remains impressive for a full-sized SUV today. Its top speed is officially rated at 245 km/h, providing effortless overtaking power on long stretches like the E11 highway. While it lacks a low-range transfer case for heavy dune bashing, the electronic AWD system and limited-slip differentials provide exceptional stability during high-speed highway cruises and in rainy conditions.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the SRT8 offers a driver-focused cockpit with leather-trimmed sports seats that provide excellent support during spirited driving. The powerful GCC-spec air conditioning system is designed to combat summer temperatures exceeding 45°C, ensuring the cabin stays cool even under heavy engine load. Despite its performance focus, it retains a practical 978-litre boot and full five-passenger seating, making it a viable daily driver for families who value speed.

Safety

This SRT8 comes standard with multi-stage front airbags and side-curtain airbags for both front and rear rows. It features electronic stability control (ESC) and a high-performance ABS system specifically tuned for the heavy-duty Brembo brakes. For GCC highway driving, the HID auto-leveling headlamps provide superior visibility during night-time desert crossings, while the reinforced Dana 44 rear axle ensures drivetrain durability under high-torque loads.

The bottom line

For the performance enthusiast who needs SUV practicality, this GCC-spec SRT8 is a mechanically sound, high-output icon that remains one of the best ways to access Hemi V8 power in the region. It is a rare opportunity to own a clean, silver performance SUV that balances usable mileage with legendary American performance.
