Summary

This GCC-spec Land Cruiser represents the pinnacle of the 200 Series luxury at its launch, featuring the robust 4.7-litre V8 engine that has earned a legendary reputation for durability across the region. As a VXR TOP trim, it offers a significantly more refined cabin experience than the workhorse GXR variants, making it a favorite for families who split their time between city commuting and desert adventures. The black exterior is a perennial favorite in the local market, maintaining strong resale appeal and a timeless executive presence. With its eight-seat configuration and proven all-wheel-drive system, it remains one of the most capable and reliable choices for navigating both modern highways and remote terrain in the GCC.

This Car vs Other 2009 Land Cruisers

With 275,000 km, this vehicle sits at an average mileage for a 2009 model in the GCC, where 20,000 to 25,000 km annually is standard due to long-distance inter-emirate travel. While higher than global averages, these V8 engines are known to easily exceed 500,000 km when maintained properly. The black exterior offers a significant resale advantage over unconventional colors, as it remains a high-demand choice in the UAE and Saudi markets.

VXR TOP vs Lower Trims

The VXR TOP trim is a substantial upgrade over the GXR, replacing fabric or basic leather with premium upholstery and adding essential GCC features like multi-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents. It also typically includes advanced electronic aids such as Crawl Control and a center console refrigerator, which are rarely found on entry-level models. For the driver, the VXR provides a superior audio system and enhanced wood-grain interior accents that elevate the cabin beyond its utilitarian rivals.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Patrol (Y61) or the Chevrolet Tahoe of the same era, the Land Cruiser leads in overall value retention and off-road reliability. Its 93-litre fuel capacity is specifically designed for the vast distances of the Arabian Peninsula, offering greater touring range than many American competitors. Furthermore, the availability of spare parts in every corner of the GCC gives it a clear ownership advantage over less common European luxury SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.7L V8 averages around 14.4 L/100km, though this will increase during stop-start traffic in cities like Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are typically recommended every 5,000 to 10,000 km, with one of the most affordable and extensive authorized service networks in the world. As a Japanese-built 4x4, it depreciates at roughly 8-10% annually, which is significantly slower than its European counterparts, making it a safe long-term financial investment.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V8 engine provides the low-end torque necessary for smooth highway overtaking and effortless dune climbing. The body-on-frame construction and advanced all-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case allow it to tackle terrain that would stop most modern crossovers. With a ground clearance of approximately 225 mm, it is perfectly suited for weekend escapes to the desert while maintaining a composed and quiet ride on the E11 highway.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Land Cruiser accommodates eight passengers across three rows, with the VXR trim prioritizing high-temperature comfort through a powerful air conditioning system. The cabin is well-insulated from the harsh GCC heat and road noise, providing a serene environment for long family road trips. The inclusion of a cooled center console ensures that beverages stay chilled during summer drives, a feature highly valued by local owners.

Safety

Safety is managed through a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems, including Multi-terrain ABS and Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) which are vital for maintaining stability on sand and gravel. The vehicle is equipped with front and side-curtain airbags, along with electronic brake-force distribution to ensure controlled stopping power even when fully loaded with eight passengers. Its heavy-duty construction provides an inherent safety advantage in highway traffic compared to smaller vehicles.

The bottom line

This Land Cruiser is the ideal match for a buyer seeking the ultimate GCC-proven workhorse that doesn't compromise on executive luxury. It offers a rare combination of high-trim features and bulletproof reliability at a competitive entry point into the legendary 200 Series family.
