Toyota Land Cruiser GXR

Highlights

• 304 hp from a 4.6-litre V8 engine
• 138-litre fuel tank capacity
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This GCC-spec Land Cruiser represents the highly sought-after 2012 facelift, combining the durability of the 200-series with a modernised 4.6L V8 powertrain. With just 116,000 km, this example shows significantly lower usage than the typical GCC average for its age, making it a standout choice for those seeking mechanical longevity. The GXR trim is the preferred sweet spot in the region, offering a V8 engine and essential comfort features like a sunroof and cruise control without the maintenance complexity of air suspension found in higher trims. Finished in black, it maintains strong resale demand, particularly given its low-mileage status. For any driver in the UAE, the legendary reliability and widespread availability of parts make this the ultimate choice for a dependable family workhorse.

This Car vs Other 2012 Land Cruisers

In the GCC, where annual mileage often exceeds 25,000 km, this vehicle's odometer reading of 116,000 km is remarkably low for a 2012 model. Most comparable listings of this vintage have already surpassed the 250,000 km mark, giving this specific car a distinct advantage in mechanical life expectancy. The black exterior remains a popular choice in the local used market, ensuring steady value retention compared to less common or niche colors.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a significant upgrade over the entry-level EXR, most notably replacing the V6 with the more powerful 4.6L V8 engine and a smoother 6-speed automatic transmission. Inside, GCC buyers benefit from additional conveniences standard on this trim, including a power sunroof, integrated cruise control, and a refrigerator in the center console. These features are highly valued in the local market for enhancing long-distance comfort during cross-emirate drives.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Nissan Patrol or Chevrolet Tahoe, the Land Cruiser leads with its dual-tank system, offering a total capacity of 138 litres for unmatched range on long desert highway trips. Its body-on-frame construction is specifically engineered for GCC terrain, providing a more robust off-road foundation than monocoque-based competitors. Additionally, the Land Cruiser's air conditioning system is widely regarded by local owners as being the most effective at maintaining cabin temperatures during extreme summer heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.6L V8 engine typically averages 13.3 L/100km on a combined cycle, though city driving in stop-start traffic may see figures closer to 18 L/100km. Maintenance is straightforward, with 10,000 km service intervals and the widest authorized service network in the region spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and beyond. Historically, the Land Cruiser holds its value better than any other vehicle in the GCC, experiencing significantly lower annual depreciation than European luxury SUVs.

Performance & Capability

The 304 hp V8 engine delivers reliable torque for highway overtaking and effortless towing with a braked capacity of up to 3,500 kg. Its full-time 4WD system and low-range transfer case ensure it is fully capable of tackling deep sand dunes during weekend desert excursions. With a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 8.6 seconds, it provides a smooth and confident driving experience suitable for both city boulevards and off-road trails.

Comfort & Cabin

This eight-seater features a spacious three-row layout, including a center console cool box that is essential for the GCC climate. The cabin is designed with high-output rear air conditioning vents to ensure all passengers remain comfortable during peak summer temperatures. Fold-flat rear seats provide significant cargo flexibility, making it an ideal vehicle for large families or long-distance road trips across the borders.

Safety

Standard safety features for this trim include front and side airbags, electronic stability control, and a multi-terrain anti-skid braking system that adapts to different surfaces. The vehicle's high driving position offers excellent visibility for navigating fast-moving highway traffic, while its robust construction provides peace of mind for both urban and off-road environments. Rear parking sensors and an integrated alarm system further enhance its daily practicality.

The bottom line

For the buyer who prioritizes mechanical integrity and regional suitability, this low-mileage, GCC-spec Land Cruiser GXR is the most sensible investment in its class today.
