Toyota Land Cruiser GXR

Highlights

• 304 hp from a 4.6-litre V8 engine
• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2012 Toyota Land Cruiser GXR is a prime example of why the 200 Series remains the definitive choice for the Gulf region. With 114,000 km on the odometer, this V8 powerhouse is considered very low mileage for its 14 years of age, especially in a market where these engines are known to comfortably double that distance. The black exterior offers a classic, commanding presence that holds its value exceptionally well in the secondary market. As a GXR trim with the 4.6L engine, it strikes the ideal balance between heavy-duty capability and daily comfort, featuring a dedicated refrigerator and a spacious 8-seat cabin. For any buyer in the GCC, this listing represents a rare opportunity to own a meticulously maintained legend that is just as capable on the school run as it is in the deep dunes.

This Car vs Other 2012 Land Cruisers

At 114,000 km, this vehicle has averaged just over 8,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for full-size SUVs. While many 14-year-old Land Cruisers in the region have exceeded the 250,000 km mark, this example remains in a mechanical bracket that is increasingly difficult to find. The black exterior is a highly sought-after resale color in the UAE, providing a premium aesthetic that consistently maintains a higher floor price than less conventional shades.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a substantial upgrade over the entry-level EXR, most notably through the addition of a factory-fitted refrigerator in the center console—an essential for the GCC climate. This mid-tier trim also includes features that local buyers prioritize, such as a sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, and enhanced interior trim. While the base models often feature a V6, this GXR is equipped with the 4.6L V8, providing the torque necessary for effortless desert driving and confident highway overtaking.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Patrol or the Chevrolet Tahoe of the same era, the Land Cruiser leads the segment in terms of absolute mechanical durability and long-term parts availability across the entire GCC. Its body-on-frame construction and Toyota's legendary air conditioning system are specifically engineered to thrive in 45°C+ temperatures where rivals often struggle. Additionally, the Land Cruiser's resale value remains the highest in its class, often retaining a significantly larger percentage of its original price compared to its American and Japanese competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.6L V8 typically averages around 14.4 L/100km, performing efficiently on long-distance highway stretches between emirates. Service intervals are standardized at 10,000 km, and with the most extensive authorized service network in the region—including Al-Futtaim in the UAE and Abdullah Abdulghani in Qatar—maintenance is both accessible and affordable. Historically, the Land Cruiser 200 Series exhibits the slowest depreciation rate of any large SUV in the GCC, making it one of the safest financial investments in the used car market.

Performance & Capability

The 304 hp V8 engine delivers a robust 439 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 8.6 seconds—impressive for a vehicle of this scale. Its defining feature is the permanent all-wheel-drive system paired with a low-range transfer case and a Torsen center differential, allowing it to navigate soft sand and steep dunes with ease. Whether you are towing a heavy trailer or crossing the Empty Quarter, the 225 mm ground clearance and specialized off-road hardware ensure this SUV never feels out of its depth.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a true 8-seater, designed for large families with a versatile layout where the third row can be folded to the sides to maximize cargo space. Interior comfort is anchored by a high-output multi-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents that can chill the cabin rapidly even in the peak of summer. The GXR trim also includes premium touches like a power-adjustable driver's seat and high-quality upholstery, ensuring long-distance journeys from Dubai to Muscat are handled in total refinement.

Safety

This Land Cruiser comes standard with an array of safety features suited for GCC highway driving, including multiple airbags, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist (BA). The Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) systems are particularly vital for maintaining grip on sandy or rain-slicked surfaces. Its massive road presence and reinforced frame provide a level of passive safety that is a hallmark of the 200 Series, giving families peace of mind on the fast-moving multi-lane highways of the region.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a low-mileage, V8-powered GCC legend that combines bulletproof reliability with high resale security, this 2012 Land Cruiser GXR is an unmissable opportunity.
