Summary

This specific Pajero presents a compelling opportunity for buyers seeking a legendary 4x4 with the rare and highly sought-after diesel powertrain in the GCC. Finished in resale-strong White, this GLS Highline Top edition offers the maximum feature set available for this model year, balancing rugged off-road hardware with essential family comforts. While the mileage reflects its life as a dependable regional cruiser, these engines are famous across the Middle East for their million-kilometer potential when maintained correctly. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it provides full peace of mind regarding cooling efficiency and parts availability from Dubai to Salalah. The combination of seven-seat versatility and high-trim luxury makes it an ideal pick for families who want a weekend adventurer that doesn't lose its value. In a market dominated by petrol variants, this diesel model stands out for its superior torque and long-range efficiency on cross-country treks.

This Car vs Other 2012 Pajeros

When comparing this vehicle to other 2012 models in the UAE and wider GCC, the primary differentiator is the GLS Highline Top trim combined with the diesel engine. Most Pajeros from this era found in the local market are petrol-powered, making this high-torque diesel variant a rare find for those who prioritize towing and fuel range. The mileage is consistent with GCC averages for a decade-old SUV, where long-distance commuting between Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi is common. Being a GCC-spec car, it holds a significant value advantage over imported counterparts, ensuring the air conditioning and radiator are built for 50-degree summers. The exterior white paint is the most practical choice for the region, reflecting heat effectively and ensuring the highest possible liquidity when it comes time to resell.

GLS HIGHLINE TOP vs Lower Trims

The GLS Highline Top represents the absolute peak of the range, offering a premium experience that lower GL or standard GLS trims lack. Inside, you benefit from upgraded upholstery and a superior Rockford Acoustic Design sound system which was a flagship feature for this model year. This trim also includes the power-adjustable seating and a large sunroof that brings an airy feel to the cabin, features often stripped out of base workhorse models. Visually, the Highline is distinguished by its chrome accents and upgraded alloy wheels, giving it a more executive presence on the road. Most importantly for the GCC, this trim includes the most robust climate control system available, featuring independent rear cooling zones that are essential for passenger comfort during the peak of summer.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

The Pajero has long-standing rivalries with the Toyota Prado and the Nissan Pathfinder, yet it carves out a unique niche in the GCC. While the Prado often commands a higher entry price, the Pajero offers a more engaging on-road driving experience thanks to its monocoque body with built-in ladder frame. Compared to the Pathfinder of the same era, the Pajero provides a more serious mechanical four-wheel-drive system, featuring the Super Select 4WD-II which allows for high-speed 4WD driving on tarmac. Its compact exterior dimensions relative to the Land Cruiser make it much easier to maneuver in tight Riyadh or Dubai mall parking, while still providing seven usable seats. The diesel torque in this specific model gives it a distinct advantage over the petrol Prado when it comes to low-end pulling power.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a diesel Mitsubishi in the GCC is a strategic move for the budget-conscious long-distance driver. Real-world fuel consumption for this diesel engine is significantly better than the V6 petrol equivalents, especially during steady-state highway cruising at 120 km/h. Maintenance is straightforward, as the Mitsubishi service network is one of the most extensive in the region, with parts available in almost every industrial area across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia. This model enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the SUV segment, often retaining value better than American or European rivals of the same age. Historically, a GCC-spec Pajero can be sold quickly in the used market due to its reputation for reliability and the high demand for 'desert-ready' family cars. You can expect consistent running costs with standard 10,000 km service intervals that are very affordable compared to premium brands.

Performance & Capability

The standout performance feature of this vehicle is its Super Select 4WD-II system, which allows the driver to shift between 2WD and 4WD at speeds up to 100 km/h. This is incredibly useful when transitioning from dry highways to rain-slicked roads or light sand. The diesel engine provides the low-end grunt required for navigating soft dunes or towing trailers, making it a favorite for weekend campers. With generous ground clearance and excellent approach and departure angles, it handles the wadis of Oman and the dunes of Liwa with equal aplomb. On the highway, the automatic transmission is geared for comfort, providing a stable and predictable ride even when fully loaded with seven passengers. Its 4-cylinder diesel heart is designed for durability and sustained torque rather than outright 0-100 speed, prioritizing the 'get-you-home' reliability that Mitsubishi is famous for.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed with a focus on space and visibility, offering a 'command' seating position that helps drivers navigate busy GCC highways. With seven seats, the cabin is versatile; the third row can be stowed completely flat or removed to create a massive cargo area for road trips. High-quality materials in this Top trim ensure the cabin stands up well to the intense UV exposure typical of the region. The air conditioning system is a standout, featuring multiple vents that reach all three rows to ensure rapid cooling after the car has been parked in the sun. The premium audio system provides excellent sound clarity, masking exterior road noise during long commutes between cities. It is a cabin built for the realities of family life, offering plenty of storage cubbies and a layout that is intuitive even for first-time SUV owners.

Safety

Safety in this GLS Highline Top edition is comprehensive for its era, featuring multiple airbags that provide protection for both front and side impacts. The heavy-duty chassis construction acts as a protective cage, a design trait that has earned the model high marks in crash testing globally. Active safety features include Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), which is vital when driving on unpredictable surfaces like loose gravel or wet tarmac. The braking system is reinforced with Multi-mode ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, ensuring the vehicle stops straight and true even when carrying a full load. For the GCC driver, the high seating position and expansive glass area provide superior peripheral vision, which is the first line of defense in fast-moving multi-lane traffic.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a high-trim, bulletproof SUV with the efficiency of a diesel engine and the security of GCC specs. It is a rare, top-tier configuration that offers more value and capability per dirham than almost anything else in its class.
