Summary

This 2012 Land Cruiser VXR is a benchmark for durability in the GCC, offering the high-specification luxury that local buyers demand. While the mileage reflects its life as a reliable highway cruiser, the beige exterior remains a top-tier choice for heat rejection and high resale demand across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This model year introduced the refined 4.6L V8 and 6-speed transmission, providing a smoother and more efficient drive than earlier iterations. As a GCC-spec VXR, it stands out with a full suite of off-road electronics and cabin comforts that base models lack. For the long-term owner, the ease of parts availability and the legendary reliability of this powertrain make it a secure investment for both city commutes and desert expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2012 Land Cruisers

At 362,000 km, this vehicle has served as a dedicated long-distance companion, a common role for Land Cruisers in the GCC where highway-heavy use is the norm. While the mileage is higher than the regional average of 25,000 km per year, these V8 engines are famous for reaching the half-million kilometer mark with routine care. The beige paint is a significant advantage in the local used market, valued for its ability to hide desert dust and stay cooler under the intense summer sun.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR is the flagship of the 2012 lineup, adding critical luxury and technical features that the GXR and GX trims lack. It includes the premium 9-speaker audio system, ventilated leather seats, and the specialized Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) for improved on-road handling. Additionally, the VXR comes standard with the Multi-Terrain Monitor's four-camera system, a must-have for navigating tricky terrain or tight city parking.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Patrol or the Chevrolet Tahoe, the Land Cruiser leads with its specialized off-road hardware like Crawl Control and a massive 138-litre dual tank system that is ideal for cross-border GCC travel. Its body-on-frame construction offers superior durability on gravel and sand compared to monocoque rivals. Furthermore, the Land Cruiser’s air conditioning system is widely regarded as the most effective in the segment for maintaining cabin comfort in 45°C+ heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.6L V8 averages approximately 14L/100km, which is efficient for its class during long highway drives between emirates. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 km or 10,000 km at authorized centers like Al Futtaim or Abdullah Hashim, ensuring a massive network of support across the UAE and KSA. This model retains value exceptionally well, often seeing only 8-10% annual depreciation compared to 15% for European luxury SUVs. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains its premium value and is eligible for service and parts at any regional dealership.

Performance & Capability

The 304 hp V8 provides 439 Nm of torque, ensuring effortless overtaking on the E11 highway and plenty of low-end grunt for dune bashing. It features a full-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case and a center locking differential for genuine off-road mastery. With a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity and Multi-Terrain Select, this SUV is as capable of hauling a boat as it is navigating deep desert sand. The 6-speed automatic transmission was a major upgrade for this year, offering much-needed refinement at high cruising speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is a true 8-seater, featuring three rows with dedicated rear A/C vents and a four-zone climate control system that ensures all passengers stay cool in the GCC summer. The VXR trim specifically provides a factory-fitted cool box in the center console, perfect for keeping drinks chilled on long drives. Acoustic glass and high-quality leather upholstery create a quiet, premium environment that remains comfortable even on the longest journeys from Dubai to Muscat.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with 8 airbags, including side-curtain and knee airbags, which were class-leading for 2012. Active safety features like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Multi-Terrain ABS are specifically tuned to provide maximum braking performance on sand, gravel, and asphalt alike. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and 360-degree sensors as standard on this trim provides extra confidence during high-traffic city driving.

The bottom line

For the buyer who prioritizes mechanical pedigree and top-tier GCC luxury, this Land Cruiser VXR offers an unbeatable combination of flagship features and legendary Toyota durability at a competitive entry point.
