Summary

This GCC-spec Toyota Land Cruiser GXR is a legendary choice for those who value mechanical durability and high resale potential in the local market. Finished in White, the region's most sought-after color for heat reflection and value retention, it features the reliable 4.6L V8 engine introduced for this model year to provide a better balance of power and efficiency. Despite the mileage, these vehicles are engineered for the extreme GCC environment, often surpassing half a million kilometers with routine care. It represents a practical opportunity to own a world-class 4x4 that handles long-distance highway hauls and desert weekends with equal composure.

This Car vs Other 2012 Land Cruisers

While the mileage on this example is higher than the GCC annual average, it reflects the typical life of a long-distance highway cruiser across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In the local market, the White exterior is a significant advantage, often commanding a faster sale and better price than darker alternatives. For a 2012 model, the mechanical condition and GCC-specific cooling system are far more critical than the odometer reading.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim is the preferred 'sweet spot' for GCC buyers, adding essential comforts over the base GX such as alloy wheels and a more refined interior. Unlike lower trims, this GXR features dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents, which is indispensable during the peak summer months. It strikes a balance between the rugged utility of the entry levels and the complex electronics found in the higher VXR models.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol of the same era, the Land Cruiser offers a more compact footprint that is easier to navigate in city traffic while maintaining a superior 138-litre total fuel capacity for cross-border trips. Its body-on-frame construction provides a level of off-road durability that monocoque rivals like the Land Rover Discovery cannot match in long-term ownership costs. The Toyota service network remains the most extensive in the region, ensuring parts are available in every GCC city.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.6L V8 averages around 13.6 L/100km on the highway, though this can rise to 17 L/100km in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic. Resale value for a V8 GCC Land Cruiser is among the highest in the automotive world, typically depreciating at a much slower rate than European luxury SUVs. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and authorized service centers are readily available from Al-Futtaim in the UAE to Abdul Latif Jameel in Saudi Arabia.

Performance & Capability

The 4.6L V8 delivers 304 hp and 439 Nm of torque, enabling a verified 0–100 km/h time of approximately 8.4 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size. It features a genuine low-range transfer case and a robust all-wheel-drive system, making it a staple for desert excursions. With a 225 mm ground clearance, it easily clears dunes and rocky terrain that would stop most modern crossovers.

Comfort & Cabin

This eight-seater layout is designed for large families, offering three rows of seating and a high-capacity air conditioning system that is famous for its performance in 45°C+ heat. The GXR cabin includes a cooled center console (cool box) to keep beverages chilled during long desert drives. Acoustic glass and thick insulation help keep the interior quiet, even at highway speeds of 120 km/h.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this GXR includes front and side airbags, electronic brakeforce distribution, and brake assist. The vehicle stability control and active traction control systems are specifically tuned to handle the transition between high-speed asphalt and loose sand surfaces. Its heavy-duty frame provides a solid safety cell that has earned the Land Cruiser a reputation for being one of the safest vehicles on regional roads.

The bottom line

Perfect for the family man or desert enthusiast who needs a bulletproof V8 workhorse that will hold its value for years to come.
