Summary

This 2016 BMW 740Li Luxury represents the first year of the groundbreaking G12 generation, offering a sophisticated balance of performance and long-wheelbase executive comfort. With 110,000 km, the mileage is perfectly aligned with the average annual use expected for a ten-year-old flagship sedan in the GCC, suggesting steady highway use rather than grueling city traffic. The Grey exterior is a resilient and high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring strong resale prospects compared to niche colors. As the Luxury trim, it provides a significantly more refined cabin experience than the base models, making it a standout choice for those who value rear-seat amenities. For a GCC buyer, this model offers the ideal entry into modern BMW flagship ownership with the highly reliable B58 straight-six engine.

This Car vs Other 2016 740Lis

At 11,000 km per year, this vehicle sits comfortably at the average mark for a luxury sedan in the UAE, where long-distance commutes between emirates are standard. The Grey finish is a strategic advantage for GCC owners, as it hides dust effectively and remains one of the top three colors for value retention. Compared to higher-mileage examples often found in this segment, this car maintains the tight mechanical feel essential for the 7 Series experience.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim elevates the 740Li with standard features that are essential for the Gulf climate, including ventilated front seats and a four-zone automatic climate control system. It also integrates the BMW Touch Command tablet in the rear, allowing passengers to control everything from ambient lighting to sunblinds. While base models may lack these executive touches, this trim ensures every seat in the cabin feels like a first-class suite.

740Li vs Segment Rivals

The BMW 740Li leads the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8 of the same era in technical innovation, specifically through its Carbon Core construction which improves agility and fuel efficiency. Its 78-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for long desert highway stretches compared to rivals with smaller capacities. For the driver, the BMW remains the most engaging choice in the segment without sacrificing the rear-seat legroom that defines the long-wheelbase class.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is impressive for a car of this size, averaging 7.0 L/100km on the highway, though GCC stop-start traffic will see this rise to roughly 10.5 L/100km. Service is managed by BMW’s Condition Based Service (CBS) system, typically requiring attention every 10,000 to 12,000 km at authorized centers across the UAE and KSA. The 740Li with GCC specs retains its value significantly better than non-regional imports, generally seeing an annual depreciation of 12-15% at this stage of its lifecycle.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with the 326 hp TwinPower Turbo inline-six, the 740Li reaches 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on the E11 highway. The standard adaptive air suspension on both axles ensures a magic-carpet ride regardless of road surface, while selectable drive modes allow you to sharpen the steering for more spirited drives. Its electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h demonstrates the high-speed stability engineered into every G12 chassis.

Comfort & Cabin

The long-wheelbase configuration provides class-leading rear legroom, complemented by electric sunblinds and acoustic glazing that seals the cabin from the midday heat. BMW's Gesture Control allows you to adjust volume or answer calls with simple hand movements, keeping your focus on the road. The interior is finished in premium leather with extensive wood trim, creating a quiet, insulated environment that remains comfortable even during the peak of the GCC summer.

Safety

Standard safety tech on this trim includes a 360-degree Surround View camera system, which is invaluable for maneuvering a long-wheelbase sedan in tight Dubai parking spaces. Active safety features like Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, and Frontal Collision Warning provide an extra layer of protection during high-speed highway travel. The Carbon Core structure adds significant rigidity to the passenger cell, contributing to its top-tier safety reputation.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec 740Li Luxury is the perfect opportunity for an executive or family looking for flagship prestige with the fuel efficiency of a six-cylinder engine. It is a well-maintained, high-spec example that offers modern BMW tech at a fraction of its original cost.
