Highlights

• 71.5 litres maximum cargo capacity
• 907 kg braked towing capacity
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2016 Santa Fe Sport offers a balanced entry into the family SUV segment, featuring a white exterior that remains the most sought-after color for resale across the GCC. With its capable all-wheel-drive system and a 2.4-liter engine, it provides dependable performance for both city commutes and inter-emirate highway travel. While the mileage reflects consistent use, the model's reputation for durability and the wide availability of parts in the region make it a sensible choice for value-conscious buyers. It stands out for its practical interior layout and straightforward mechanicals, ensuring lower long-term maintenance costs compared to complex European rivals.

This Car vs Other 2016 Santa Fes

At 170,000 km, this Santa Fe aligns with typical GCC highway use of roughly 20,000 km per year. The white exterior is a significant advantage in the local market, as it better manages the desert heat and maintains a higher resale value than darker tones. Choosing an American spec model often allows for a more competitive entry price while maintaining access to the extensive regional service network.

SPORT vs Lower Trims

The Sport trim provides a meaningful upgrade over the base SE by including the Active Cornering Control AWD system, which enhances stability during high-speed highway maneuvers and sudden weather changes. Inside, it features the YES Essentials stain-resistant cloth upholstery, a detail highly valued by families in the GCC. The trim also standardizes a 4.3-inch touchscreen with a rearview camera, simplifying parking in tight urban spaces.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the Santa Fe Sport offers a larger interior volume of 108 cubic feet, providing more breathing room for five adult passengers. Its 66-liter fuel tank is well-sized for long-distance desert drives, reducing the frequency of stops on routes like Dubai to Salalah. The inclusion of a center locking differential as standard on this AWD trim gives it a slight edge in soft-sand capability over more road-biased competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.4L AWD engine typically averages between 10 and 12 L/100km on GCC highways. As a Hyundai, this vehicle benefits from one of the most comprehensive authorized service networks spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring affordable parts availability. While American spec vehicles may have different initial warranty terms, the mechanical components are widely understood by local technicians, keeping annual maintenance costs predictable.

Performance & Capability

The 174-horsepower engine is paired with a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission designed for effortless highway cruising. The Active Cornering Control AWD system proactively distributes torque to improve traction, which is particularly useful when navigating gravel tracks or wet roads after a storm. With a 907 kg braked towing capacity, it is capable of hauling small trailers or jet skis for weekend activities.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is engineered for family practicality, featuring 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats that allow for flexible cargo configurations. Hyundai's air conditioning systems are highly regarded for their ability to combat extreme summer temperatures, quickly cooling the 5-passenger cabin. Standard acoustic glass helps isolate the interior from road noise during long highway stints across the Emirates.

Safety

Safety is managed by a comprehensive suite including Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, and electronic brake-force distribution. These systems are essential for maintaining control on sandy highway shoulders or during sudden stops in heavy city traffic. This trim includes front, side, and curtain airbags, providing robust protection for all five occupants.

The bottom line

This Santa Fe Sport is an ideal match for a family looking for a reliable, AWD-equipped SUV that won't break the bank on maintenance or fuel. It represents a smart opportunity to own a high-demand color and trim configuration that is perfectly suited for the GCC's demanding climate.
