Hyundai Santa Fe SPORT Steering wheel controls, central locking

Highlights

• 5-star overall safety rating (NHTSA)
• 2,027 litres maximum cargo volume
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport offers a balanced entry into the mid-size SUV segment, particularly for those prioritising cabin space and safety over high-performance metrics. With 170,000 km on the clock, it sits within the expected range for a 10-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where highway-heavy commutes are the norm. The 2.4-litre engine and All-Wheel Drive system provide reliable traction for occasional gravel tracks and wet weather, while the white exterior ensures better heat reflection during peak summer. As a value-focused crossover, it competes effectively against the Kia Sorento and Toyota RAV4 by offering a more substantial interior footprint. For a buyer in the UAE or wider region, this listing represents a practical daily driver backed by one of the most accessible parts and service networks in the Middle East.

This Car vs Other 2016 Santa Fes

At 170,000 km, this Santa Fe's mileage is consistent with typical GCC usage patterns of 17,000–20,000 km per year. The white exterior is the most sought-after resale colour in the local market, providing a significant advantage for future value retention and cabin cooling efficiency. While higher than a low-mileage city car, this vehicle has reached a stable point on the depreciation curve, making it a predictable investment.

SPORT vs Lower Trims

The Sport trim provides essential upgrades over basic entry models, including the standard 17-inch alloy wheels and rear spoiler that improve the vehicle's road presence. Inside, it features YES Essentials stain-resistant fabric, which is particularly durable against the dust and sand common in the GCC. The inclusion of All-Wheel Drive (AWD) adds a layer of safety and stability that front-wheel-drive base models lack.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

The Santa Fe leads many rivals like the Honda CR-V in total interior volume, offering superior cargo flexibility with its 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats. Compared to the Toyota RAV4 of the same era, it provides a quieter cabin at highway speeds, which is a major factor during long drives between emirates. Its 64-litre fuel tank ensures a competitive cruising range for cross-border travel.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.4L AWD typically averages between 10–11.5 L/100km, performing well on long highway stretches but increasing in stop-start Dubai or Riyadh traffic. Maintenance is straightforward, with service intervals recommended every 10,000 km at any of the extensive authorized centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Historically, this model maintains a stable resale value in the GCC due to its reputation for mechanical durability and high parts availability.

Performance & Capability

The 174 hp 4-cylinder engine is tuned for smooth highway cruising and fuel efficiency rather than aggressive acceleration. The All-Wheel Drive system is highly effective for maintaining grip on sandy shoulders or during the region's sudden winter rainstorms. With a ground clearance of approximately 185 mm, it handles speed bumps and uneven suburban roads with ease, making it a capable family workhorse for daily regional duties.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout is designed for maximum passenger comfort, featuring reclining second-row seats that are a rarity in this price bracket. The air conditioning system is engineered to handle extreme summer heat, ensuring the cabin stays cool even when parked in direct sunlight. Generous legroom in both rows makes it an ideal choice for families who frequently undertake long-distance road trips.

Safety

Safety is a cornerstone of the 2016 Sport trim, which earned a 5-star overall rating from the NHTSA. Standard equipment includes seven airbags, electronic stability control, and traction control systems that are vital for high-speed highway safety. The vehicle's structure is reinforced for side-impact protection, and the anti-lock braking system is calibrated to provide consistent stopping power on both paved and gravel surfaces.

The bottom line

This is a sensible choice for a GCC buyer seeking a spacious, safe, and easily maintainable SUV that has already bypassed its steepest depreciation years.
