• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2016 Kia Sorento EX represents a highly practical choice for GCC families, offering the robust 3.3L V6 engine that provides much-needed power for highway overtaking and full-passenger hauls. With mileage that aligns with typical long-distance driving patterns in the region, this SUV remains a durable workhorse known for its mechanical simplicity and ease of maintenance. The Brown exterior is a sophisticated, neutral choice that resists the appearance of desert dust better than darker shades, supporting its long-term resale appeal. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system and air conditioning unit specifically engineered to handle the extreme heat of the Arabian summer. This listing stands out for its balance of a proven powertrain and a cabin configuration that truly accommodates a growing family.

This Car vs Other 2016 Sorentos

With 168,000 km, this Sorento sits at an average mileage for its age in the GCC, where annual driving often hits 20,000–25,000 km due to frequent inter-city travel. Unlike American or European imports often found in the market, this is a genuine GCC-spec vehicle, ensuring full compatibility with local service centers and a higher trust factor for future buyers. The Brown finish is a practical advantage in our climate, maintaining its luster under the harsh sun while hiding minor sand abrasions effectively.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim is a significant step up from the base LX, most notably replacing the smaller 2.4L engine with the more capable 3.3L V6 and adding the All-Wheel Drive system as standard. GCC buyers will appreciate the inclusion of leather seat trim and dedicated 3rd-row A/C controls, features that are often optional or missing on lower-spec models. It also adds premium touches like a Smart Power Liftgate and upgraded alloy wheels that enhance both daily convenience and curb appeal.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Toyota Fortuner or Mitsubishi Pajero, the Sorento offers a more car-like, refined ride thanks to its monocoque chassis, making it a better daily commuter on paved highways. It leads in cabin tech and soft-touch materials compared to more rugged, utility-focused competitors. While rivals might offer more off-road hardware, the Sorento's AWD system and V6 engine provide superior on-road comfort and stability for the school run and family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.3L V6 averages around 12.1 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions, which is competitive for a seven-seater. Kia’s massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensures that parts are readily available and maintenance costs remain predictable. The Sorento holds its value well in the local market, typically seeing a depreciation of 10–12% annually, which is superior to many of its American and European counterparts.

Performance & Capability

The 3.3L V6 engine produces 270 hp, allowing the Sorento to reach 100 km/h in approximately 8.8 seconds, providing confident performance even when fully loaded. The All-Wheel Drive system includes a center-locking mode for added traction on gravel or light sand, making it a reliable companion for weekend trips to the outskirts. Its 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, ensuring a quiet cabin during long-distance highway cruises across the emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the seven-seat layout is highly flexible, with second-row seats that slide to provide easier access to the third row. The air conditioning system is a standout feature, designed specifically for the region with powerful vents reaching all three rows to ensure passenger comfort in 45°C+ temperatures. Acoustic glass and thick insulation help isolate the cabin from road noise and the intense exterior heat common during GCC summers.

Safety

Standard safety for the EX trim includes front and side-impact airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and specialized Roll Stability Control to manage the vehicle's height. Rear parking sensors and a backup camera are standard, providing essential visibility for tight city parking in Dubai or Riyadh. The vehicle's 4WD system further enhances safety by providing better grip during the occasional heavy rain or on loose-surface roads.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a reliable, V6-powered family SUV with genuine local specifications, this Sorento EX offers the ideal blend of space and proven durability. It is a smart, low-risk opportunity for anyone needing seven seats without the high running costs of a full-sized 4x4.
