Summary

This 2016 Lexus LX570 Platinum remains the definitive benchmark for luxury off-roading in the GCC region. Despite its age, this vehicle continues to command respect on the roads of Dubai and Riyadh due to its legendary reliability and the prestigious Platinum trim level. The 5.7L V8 engine provides the effortless torque required for both high-speed highway cruising and navigating soft desert sands. While many modern SUVs have switched to smaller turbocharged engines, this naturally aspirated powerhouse offers a level of mechanical longevity that is increasingly rare. For a buyer in the Gulf, this represents a unique opportunity to own a vehicle that holds its value better than almost any other luxury SUV on the market. The grey exterior provides a sophisticated look that handles the dusty regional environment far better than darker shades, ensuring it looks pristine between washes. Choosing this GCC-spec model ensures you have the cooling capacity and service support necessary for long-term peace of mind in our demanding climate.

This Car vs Other 2016 LX570s

When looking at the 2016 model year in the GCC market, this LX570 sits at a mileage point that reflects a car that has been used exactly as intended—for long-distance regional travel. While 228,000 km might seem high in other markets, for a Lexus V8 in the Middle East, it often signifies a vehicle that has spent most of its life on well-maintained highways rather than in punishing stop-start city traffic. Many 2016 models currently available have either been imported from other regions or have seen less consistent maintenance, whereas this GCC-spec unit was built specifically for our heat and terrain. The grey exterior is a significant advantage for resale, as it is one of the most sought-after colors in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, sitting just behind white in terms of market demand. Buyers of this specific year benefit from the major 2016 facelift, which introduced the much more modern exterior styling and the vastly improved interior layout that still feels contemporary today. Compared to others of the same vintage, the mechanical integrity of a high-mileage Lexus is almost always superior to European rivals with similar odometer readings.

PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The Platinum trim is the absolute pinnacle of the LX570 hierarchy, offering several critical upgrades that transform the driving experience in the GCC. While the standard trims are well-equipped, the Platinum adds the Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound system, which is widely considered one of the finest audio experiences in the automotive world. You also receive the upgraded semi-aniline leather upholstery, which is more durable and stays cooler to the touch during intense summer months compared to standard leather. Perhaps most importantly for our climate, the Platinum trim includes enhanced ventilation for both the front and rear seats, ensuring every passenger remains comfortable even when temperatures exceed 45 degrees Celsius. It also features the 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, a tool that becomes indispensable when navigating tight parking spots in major malls or maneuvering through narrow off-road trails. The inclusion of the Rear Seat Entertainment system with dual screens further distinguishes this as the premier family vehicle, providing a level of luxury that lower trims simply cannot match.

LX570 vs Segment Rivals

The LX570 primarily competes with the Range Rover Vogue and the Cadillac Escalade, but it holds several distinct advantages for the GCC buyer. Unlike the Range Rover, which often faces questions regarding long-term electronic reliability in extreme heat, the Lexus is built on a foundation of bulletproof mechanical engineering that has been proven over decades in the Empty Quarter. While the Escalade offers significant size, it lacks the genuine off-road hardware—such as the heavy-duty suspension and advanced Crawl Control—that allows the LX570 to transition from a luxury mall-cruiser to a desert conqueror at the touch of a button. The LX570 also features a sophisticated Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) that provides better high-speed stability on the E11 highway than its softer American competitors. Furthermore, the sheer density of the Lexus service network across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia means you are never far from expert care, a claim its European rivals cannot always make. For the buyer who values a blend of prestige and unbreakable utility, the Lexus remains the undisputed king of the segment.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a Lexus LX570 in the GCC is one of the safest financial decisions a car buyer can make, as the depreciation rate is remarkably low, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually compared to the 15-20% seen in European luxury SUVs. The 5.7L V8 is designed to run efficiently on local fuel grades, and while it is a large-capacity engine, its highway efficiency is surprisingly respectable for a vehicle of this stature. Routine servicing is straightforward, with intervals usually occurring every 10,000 km, and costs are kept manageable by the massive availability of both genuine and high-quality aftermarket parts across the region. Because this is a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains a much higher resale value than American or Japanese imports, as local buyers trust the cooling systems and specifications are optimized for our environment. Even at this mileage, there is a massive secondary market for this model, ensuring that when it comes time to sell, you will find a buyer quickly and at a premium price point. The total cost of ownership over several years often ends up being lower than many smaller, less prestigious vehicles due to this incredible value retention.

Performance & Capability

At the heart of the LX570 is a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 362 horsepower and 530 Nm of torque, delivered through a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain is legendary for its ability to pull heavy loads and overtake with confidence on fast-moving UAE motorways. While the technical data might suggest a focus on luxury, the LX570 is a true body-on-frame SUV with a sophisticated 4WD system, featuring a Torsen limited-slip center differential and various Multi-Terrain Select modes. Whether you are navigating a rocky wadi in Hatta or driving through a summer sandstorm, the vehicle remains composed and incredibly stable. The ground clearance is ample for serious off-roading, yet the adaptive variable suspension lowers the vehicle at highway speeds to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. It also features a class-leading towing capacity, making it the perfect companion for those who need to transport jet skis or horse trailers across the Emirates. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in roughly 7.5 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this mass, providing a sense of effortless power in daily driving.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the Platinum trim is a sanctuary of silence and high-quality materials, designed to isolate passengers from the noise and heat of the outside world. The cabin features a 12.3-inch high-resolution multimedia display and a signature analog clock that adds a touch of timeless elegance. The air conditioning system is widely regarded as the best in the industry, capable of cooling the entire cabin from scorching temperatures to a comfortable chill in a matter of minutes. With seating for five, the legroom and headroom are expansive, allowing for comfortable long-distance travel to Salalah or Riyadh without fatigue. The insulation is world-class, utilizing acoustic glass to ensure that conversations can be held at a whisper even at highway speeds. Every surface is finished in either high-grade leather or real wood trim, creating a tactile experience that feels substantially more premium than its Toyota Land Cruiser cousin. The large sunroof provides an airy feel to the cabin during the cooler months, while the power-operated tailgate adds convenience for daily shopping or loading gear for a weekend trip.

Safety

Safety in the 2016 LX570 Platinum is comprehensive, featuring the Lexus Safety System+ as standard. This includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Alert, all of which are vital for safety on high-speed regional highways. The Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert provide an extra layer of protection when changing lanes in heavy traffic or backing out of tight spaces in busy urban areas. For off-road safety, the vehicle is equipped with Multi-terrain ABS which adjusts braking performance based on the surface, whether it be sand, gravel, or pavement. Ten airbags are strategically placed throughout the cabin to protect all occupants in the event of an impact. The structural integrity of the body-on-frame design also provides a natural safety advantage in collisions compared to smaller unibody vehicles. This suite of active and passive systems ensures that families can travel across the GCC with the highest level of confidence and security.

The bottom line

This LX570 Platinum is the perfect choice for a GCC resident who wants the prestige of a luxury flagship without the reliability headaches of a European rival. It represents an excellent value proposition, offering the top-tier Platinum features at a price point that reflects its mileage while still promising years of dependable service.
