Summary

This 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Bus offers a versatile solution for high-capacity transport, featuring a reliable 2.2-litre petrol engine paired with a smooth automatic transmission. As a 10-year-old vehicle with 200,000 km, its mileage is exactly in line with the expected 20,000 km per year average for commercial and shuttle use in the GCC. The crisp white exterior is the highest-demand resale color in the region, reflecting heat effectively and ensuring long-term value retention. While this is a European-spec model, the Sprinter’s global reputation for durability makes it a staple for regional businesses and large families alike. It stands out in its segment for its superior German engineering and a cabin layout that prioritizes passenger comfort during long cross-border drives.

This Car vs Other 2016 Sprinters

With 200,000 km on the odometer, this Sprinter sits at the typical average for a decade-old commercial bus in the UAE, where high-mileage highway runs are standard. The white exterior provides a significant advantage for resale in the local market, as it is the most sought-after color for heat management. While many 2016 models in the market are high-roof cargo variants, this passenger bus configuration remains a rarer find for private shuttle use.

STD vs Lower Trims

The STD trim provides the essential foundation for Mercedes-Benz passenger transport, including a factory-installed 9+ seating arrangement and an automatic transmission that simplifies city driving. Compared to base worker variants, this trim features a more refined interior finished in durable materials suitable for high-frequency passenger use. It also benefits from the integrated Mercedes-Benz audio system and standard air conditioning zones designed for multi-row occupancy.

Sprinter vs Segment Rivals

The Sprinter leads the Ford Transit and Toyota HiAce in terms of chassis refinement and high-speed stability on the E11 highway. Its European engineering offers a more sophisticated suspension setup that reduces cabin vibration compared to Japanese rivals, making it the preferred choice for executive shuttles. Furthermore, the 75-litre fuel tank ensures fewer stops during long-distance trips between Emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.2L petrol engine averages approximately 11-13 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. As a European-spec vehicle, it is recommended to use 95-octane fuel to maintain optimal engine health and performance. Mercedes-Benz maintains a massive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts for the W906 generation are readily available. While European imports typically see a slightly higher depreciation rate than GCC-spec equivalents, the Sprinter's status as a 'Value Workhorse' keeps its resale price stable due to high demand in the secondary export market.

Performance & Capability

The 163 hp turbocharged engine provides linear power delivery, essential for merging onto fast-moving UAE highways when fully loaded with passengers. Its rear-wheel-drive configuration offers a tighter turning circle of approximately 15.3 metres, which is impressively agile for a vehicle of this length in tight urban loading zones. The automatic gearbox is tuned for smooth shifts, maintaining passenger comfort even in heavy stop-start traffic in Dubai or Riyadh.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured with 9+ seats, offering ample legroom for adult passengers across all rows. The powerful Mercedes-Benz climate control system includes dedicated rear ventilation to combat extreme summer temperatures, ensuring consistent cooling throughout the long cabin. Heavy-duty insulation helps block out road noise and exterior heat, creating a more relaxed environment for long-distance travel.

Safety

Safety is anchored by Mercedes-Benz's Electronic Stability Program (ESP) which accounts for the vehicle's load weight to prevent skidding. Standard features include driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and Crosswind Assist, which is particularly useful for maintaining lane stability on open desert roads prone to sudden gusts. The reinforced body structure is designed to meet stringent European safety standards, offering superior protection compared to many budget competitors.

The bottom line

This Sprinter is an ideal match for UAE-based tour operators or large families seeking a reliable, high-capacity bus with the prestige and safety of the Mercedes-Benz badge at a competitive price point.
