Toyota Land Cruiser 70 LC79 EXR LC 79 Base GCC Specs

Highlights

• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials
• 130-litre fuel tank standard
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2016 Land Cruiser 79 EXR represents a rare opportunity for GCC collectors and off-road enthusiasts, showing just 8,400 km on the odometer. As a GCC-spec model finished in the highly desirable Sand Beige, it offers the ultimate combination of mechanical simplicity and legendary durability. While rivals have moved toward complex electronics, this LC79 retains the manual gearbox and robust 4.0L V6 preferred by desert experts. With such low mileage, it effectively offers a 'like-new' mechanical experience in a body style that is increasingly difficult to find in this condition. For a buyer in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, this is a turnkey vehicle for heavy-duty work or professional desert expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2016 Land Cruiser 70s

With only 8,400 km, this vehicle's usage is exceptionally low for the GCC, where the average annual mileage for a Land Cruiser often exceeds 25,000 km. Most 2016 models in the market have surpassed 150,000 km, making this a unique find that retains its original mechanical tightness. The Sand Beige exterior is not just a stylistic choice but the most practical and highest-resale color for this model in the region.

LC79 EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the essential GCC standard, adding 16-inch alloy wheels and a front winch over the basic commercial variants. It includes the distinctive chrome package on the grille and mirrors, which is a key differentiator for resale value in the local market. Inside, you benefit from upgraded fabric seating and the essential factory air conditioning system designed specifically for extreme desert heat.

Land Cruiser 70 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol Super Safari pickup, the Land Cruiser LC79 offers a more focused mechanical layout and a larger 130-litre fuel tank for extended range during desert crossings. Its body-on-frame construction is significantly more rugged than modern mid-size pickups like the Hilux or Ranger, providing superior durability for heavy-duty off-road use. The Toyota also benefits from the most extensive spare parts network in the entire GCC region.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 is remarkably reliable and runs efficiently on 95-octane petrol, with parts available in almost every town across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 km for oil changes due to harsh dusty environments, but overall maintenance costs remain low due to the lack of complex electronics. The LC79 series has one of the lowest depreciation rates in the world, often retaining over 75% of its value after three years in the GCC market.

Performance & Capability

The 228 hp V6 engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, offering the high-torque low-end response needed for climbing steep dunes. With a genuine low-range transfer case and manual locking hubs, this truck provides mechanical grip that electronic systems struggle to match. Its heavy-duty leaf spring rear suspension allows for a payload capacity exceeding 1,000 kg, making it as much a workhorse as it is a weekend adventurer.

Comfort & Cabin

The 3-seat cabin is designed for utility and longevity, featuring high-quality fabric upholstery and a layout that can be easily cleaned after a desert trip. The air conditioning system is legendary in the GCC for its ability to maintain freezing temperatures even when the outside thermometer exceeds 50°C. Storage is focused on utility, with a simple dashboard layout and durable materials that resist sun damage over long-term ownership.

Safety

Safety features on this EXR trim include dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard. The robust steel ladder-frame chassis provides a high degree of passive protection during off-road excursions. It also features a tire pressure monitoring system, which is crucial for managing tire health when airing down for sand driving on long desert hauls.

The bottom line

This is a collector-grade example of the GCC's most trusted off-roader, offering nearly zero-mileage reliability in a classic, high-resale specification.
