Summary

This 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan SE is a versatile choice for families in the GCC, offering the proven power of the Pentastar V6 for smooth highway cruising between Emirates. While the mileage reflects its life as a dependable daily workhorse, the American specification provides a robust mechanical platform that is well-understood by technicians across the region. The SE trim strikes a balance between essential utility and long-distance capability, featuring a cabin built to withstand years of school runs and road trips. With its class-leading interior flexibility, this van stands out as one of the most practical seven-seaters available for buyers prioritizing space over flair. The blue exterior is a unique alternative to the standard white fleet vehicles, maintaining a clean and professional look.

This Car vs Other 2017 Grand Caravans

At 193,000 km, this vehicle has served as a primary family transporter, which is typical for minivans in the UAE where school commutes and weekend travel quickly add up. While the mileage is higher than some low-use examples, it indicates a car that has been consistently driven, often a sign of mechanical health in the GCC heat. The blue finish offers a refreshed aesthetic compared to the more common white or silver models found in local listings.

SE vs Lower Trims

The SE trim upgrades the basic functional cabin with three-zone manual temperature control, a critical feature for keeping all seven passengers cool during the Gulf summer. It also includes the 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rearview camera as standard, providing modern conveniences that were previously optional. Body-colored door handles and side moldings give the SE a more integrated and premium look than the base utility trims.

Grand Caravan vs Segment Rivals

The Grand Caravan leads competitors like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna in raw utility thanks to its versatile seating configurations and massive 4,072-litre maximum cargo capacity. The 3.6L V6 engine provides more standard horsepower than many entry-level rivals, making it exceptionally capable when fully loaded with seven passengers. Its long 121.2-inch wheelbase ensures superior stability on high-speed desert highways compared to smaller three-row SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.6L Pentastar engine is widely used across the Chrysler/Dodge range in the GCC, ensuring excellent parts availability and affordable maintenance at independent workshops in Sharjah and Dubai. Fuel consumption averages approximately 11.2 L/100km combined, which is competitive for a vehicle of this size. While American spec models experience higher initial depreciation than GCC spec units, they offer a much lower entry price, making them a high-value choice for budget-conscious families.

Performance & Capability

Outputting 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, the Grand Caravan handles highway overtaking with ease, even when carrying a full passenger load. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smooth shifts, providing a comfortable ride for long-distance travel between Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates. It also offers a respectable 1,633 kg maximum towing capacity, suitable for light trailers or jet ski transport.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for ultimate family logistics, featuring a third-row bench that can flip backward for 'tailgate seating' during outdoor stops. Three-zone climate control ensures that the air conditioning reaches the rear rows effectively, a mandatory requirement for the region's extreme temperatures. Easy-clean floor mats and durable cloth upholstery make it resilient against the wear and tear of a busy family lifestyle.

Safety

Safety is managed by an advanced multistage airbag system, including a driver’s knee blocker and side-curtain airbags for all three rows. Standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and All-Speed Traction Control provide vital assistance on sand-dusted roads or during occasional heavy rain. The integrated rearview camera assists with parking this large van in tight city malls and residential bays.

The bottom line

For the growing family needing maximum space and reliable V6 power at a competitive price point, this Grand Caravan is a sensible and highly functional investment.
