Summary

This 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 offers the highly sought-after Regular Cab configuration, making it a more agile and focused choice than the common four-door variants. Its silver exterior is one of the strongest colors for resale in the GCC, effectively reflecting heat while maintaining a professional appearance. With 117,000 km, the mileage is slightly below the regional average for a seven-year-old truck, suggesting it hasn't endured the extreme long-distance commutes typical of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. As a GCC-spec Z71 model, it features reinforced cooling and heavy-duty suspension, providing the mechanical peace of mind essential for handling extreme summer temperatures and weekend desert excursions.

This Car vs Other 2017 Sierras

At 117,000 km, this Sierra's usage is relatively low compared to the 20,000–25,000 km annual average often seen in the GCC. The silver paint is a strategic advantage for local buyers, as it significantly aids in heat rejection during summer months and consistently ranks as a top-three resale color across the region. Unlike standard 2WD trims, this All-Wheel Drive Z71 model offers the mechanical robustess preferred by UAE and KSA enthusiasts.

SLE Z71 vs Lower Trims

The Z71 package is a major step up from the base Sierra, adding off-road-tuned Rancho monotube shocks, a heavy-duty locking rear differential, and underbody skid plates. Inside, the SLE trim replaces the basic work-truck interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-inch IntelliLink infotainment system, and a high-definition backup camera. These upgrades make the SLE Z71 a much more comfortable daily driver while significantly increasing its capability for off-tarmac adventures.

Sierra vs Segment Rivals

The Sierra 1500 competes directly with the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150, distinguishing itself with a more premium interior finish and a squared-off, muscular design that is highly popular in the Middle East. Its 5.3L V8 engine is renowned for its reliability and parts availability, often proving easier to service in smaller GCC cities than the turbocharged alternatives from some rivals. The short-wheelbase Regular Cab setup also provides a tighter turning circle, which is a genuine advantage when navigating tight urban parking in Dubai or Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.3L V8 averages around 13.5 L/100km, though this varies between city traffic and long highway stretches. GMC maintains one of the most comprehensive authorized service networks in the GCC, with extensive coverage across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Being a GCC-spec model, it retains value far better than imported American-spec trucks, which often face insurance and warranty hurdles. Parts availability is excellent, ensuring that maintenance costs remain predictable and affordable for the long term.

Performance & Capability

The 355 hp V8 provides reliable power for highway overtaking and heavy-duty hauling, with a verified maximum towing capacity of up to 4,173 kg. The Z71-specific hardware, including the Eaton G80 locking rear differential, ensures maximum traction when navigating soft sand or gravel. This truck is built for the versatile GCC lifestyle, transitioning effortlessly from a high-speed highway cruiser between emirates to a capable weekend warrior in the dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The three-seat Regular Cab cabin is surprisingly quiet, benefiting from triple-sealed doors and acoustic-laminated glass that helps block out both road noise and desert heat. The dual-zone climate control is specifically calibrated for the Gulf, delivering rapid cooling even after the truck has been parked in direct sunlight. While it is a focused two-door model, it retains ample storage space behind the seats for tools or weekend gear, making it a practical choice for both professionals and hobbyists.

Safety

Safety is anchored by a suite of six airbags and GM's StabiliTrak system, which includes Proactive Roll Avoidance and traction control essential for high-speed highway stability. This trim also features the Rear Vision Camera and Rear Park Assist, which are particularly helpful for managing the truck's footprint in tight spaces. The body-on-frame construction provides a robust safety cell, while the Z71 underbody shielding protects vital components from debris during off-road use.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Sierra SLE Z71 is the perfect opportunity for a buyer seeking a well-maintained, high-spec Regular Cab that is mechanically ready for the Gulf's unique demands.
