Summary

This 2017 Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler is a specialized find in the GCC market, blending heritage aesthetics with functional off-road hardware. With its short wheelbase, manual transmission, and factory-upgraded 3.73 axle ratio, it offers a visceral and mechanical driving experience that modern automatics can't replicate. The white exterior is the gold standard for heat rejection and resale value in the region, while the Willys-specific BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires and high-gloss black wheels provide a distinct visual edge. For the purist looking to tackle Liwa or the Hajar mountains, this manual 2-door represents the peak of Jeep's go-anywhere philosophy. It remains one of the few vehicles in the UAE that offers a true open-air, analog connection to the terrain.

This Car vs Other 2017 Wranglers

While many 2017 Wranglers in the GCC are high-mileage daily drivers, this unit sits at an average usage level for a 7-year-old enthusiast vehicle. The manual gearbox is a rarity in a market dominated by automatics, making it highly desirable for off-road purists who want total control over gear selection in deep sand. The white paint is the most practical choice for the UAE's extreme summers and historically maintains the strongest resale value.

WILLYS WHEELER vs Lower Trims

The Willys Wheeler is a significant mechanical step up from the base Sport trim, adding the Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential and rock rails for serious underbody protection. It also features a shorter 3.73 gear ratio, which provides better low-end torque for crawling and oversized tires compared to the standard 3.21 found in lower trims. Visually, it distinguishes itself with a gloss-black grille, 'Willys' hood decals, and 17-inch high-gloss black aluminum wheels.

Wrangler vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Toyota FJ Cruiser or the Nissan Patrol Super Safari, the Wrangler stands alone with its fully removable doors and roof, offering a unique convertible SUV experience. Its short wheelbase gives it a superior breakover angle and a tighter turning circle of approximately 10.6 meters, allowing it to navigate narrow wadis where larger SUVs struggle. While the FJ Cruiser offers more on-road refinement, the Wrangler's live-axle setup provides superior wheel articulation for technical rock crawling.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.6L Pentastar V6 is a staple of the Jeep lineup in the GCC, known for its reliability in high temperatures and wide parts availability. Fuel consumption typically averages around 13.0 L/100km in mixed driving, though this can vary during low-range off-roading. Resale value for 2-door manual Wranglers remains exceptionally strong in the UAE, as they are highly sought after by the local dune-bashing community. Authorized service centers are well-established across all emirates and major GCC cities.

Performance & Capability

The 280 hp V6 paired with a 6-speed manual transmission allows the driver to keep the engine in its power band, crucial for maintaining momentum on soft dunes. The Willys Wheeler comes factory-equipped with a Command-Trac NV241 part-time 4WD system, which features a 2.72:1 low-range gear for technical descents. With approximately 210 mm of ground clearance and heavy-duty Dana axles, this Jeep is engineered to handle the toughest terrain the GCC has to offer.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for durability and easy cleaning after a day in the desert, featuring rugged cloth upholstery and all-weather slush mats standard on the Willys trim. The air conditioning system is specifically tuned to cope with GCC heat, and the 2-door configuration provides a focused cockpit for the driver. While cargo space is 365 litres with the seats up, the rear seats can be tumbled forward to significantly expand room for camping gear or recovery equipment.

Safety

Standard safety features include electronic stability control with roll mitigation, which is essential for the Wrangler's high center of gravity during highway maneuvers. It also includes hill-start assist to prevent rolling back on steep inclines, multi-stage front airbags, and a robust high-strength steel sport bar for occupant protection. The four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes are tuned for both high-speed highway stops and low-speed off-road modulation.

The bottom line

For the desert enthusiast who values mechanical purity and heritage styling, this manual Willys Wheeler is a rare, trail-ready opportunity in a market of soft-roaders.
