• 563 hp from a handcrafted AMG 5.5L V8 biturbo
• 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds
• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials

Summary

This 2017 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG offers a compelling entry into the iconic W463 generation, featuring the desirable 5.5L V8 biturbo engine that preceded the move to the 4.0L unit. With 84,000 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 12,000 km per year, significantly lower than the GCC average of 20,000 km, making it a mechanically fresh example for its age. Finished in white, the most preferred color for resale in the Middle East, it offers excellent heat rejection and market desirability. While an American spec import, it provides the full G-Wagon experience—unmistakable boxy proportions and high-output performance—at a more accessible entry point than its GCC-spec counterparts. For the GCC buyer, this represents a chance to own a modern classic that remains the ultimate status symbol from Dubai to Riyadh.

This Car vs Other 2017 G63 AMGs

At 84,000 km, this G63 sits well below the typical 140,000–170,000 km range expected for a 2017 model in the high-mileage GCC market. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the region, not only helping to keep cabin temperatures lower during peak summer but also ensuring the strongest possible demand when it comes time to resell. As one of the final years of the first-generation AMG G-Class, it benefits from the most refined interior and technology updates before the 2019 redesign.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

As the G63 AMG, this vehicle sits at the top of the G-Class hierarchy, adding the handcrafted 5.5L twin-turbo V8 that is absent in the G500. It features the signature side-exit AMG exhaust system and high-performance braking system with red-painted calipers, both of which are major draws for local enthusiasts. The interior is upgraded with designo Nappa leather and an AMG-specific instrument cluster that differentiates it from non-AMG models.

G63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

While the Land Rover Defender V8 offers more modern road manners, the G63 AMG leads in sheer presence and iconic design that has remained virtually unchanged for decades. Compared to the Cadillac Escalade-V, the G63 provides a more focused off-road foundation with its triple locking differentials, making it far more capable for weekend desert excursions. Its compact footprint also makes it significantly easier to maneuver through dense city traffic in Dubai or Doha compared to full-size American luxury SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 17.1 L/100km, though stop-start traffic in GCC cities will see this rise significantly. Authorized service centers are plentiful across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with minor service intervals recommended every 10,000 km to maintain the handcrafted engine. While American spec vehicles generally trade at a 15-20% discount compared to GCC specs, the G63 model itself enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the luxury SUV segment due to its perennial demand.

Performance & Capability

The 563 hp V8 biturbo engine delivers a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds, an impressive feat for a vehicle with a 23.6-inch wading depth and 27-degree approach angle. It is equipped with a permanent all-wheel-drive system and a low-range transfer case that can be engaged for serious off-roading. The three independent differential locks—center, rear, and front—provide mechanical traction that few modern SUVs can match, ensuring it is as capable on the dunes as it is on the highway.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features the classic 4-seat configuration with designo leather upholstery, providing a luxury environment despite the vehicle's rugged exterior. Standard equipment for this year includes a high-resolution 8-inch tablet-style display with smartphone integration, essential for modern navigation across the Emirates. The powerful Mercedes-Benz climate control system is well-regarded for handling high ambient temperatures, ensuring the cabin stays chilled even during the hottest months.

Safety

This 2017 trim comes standard with a comprehensive safety suite, including Blind Spot Assist and DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control, which are invaluable for long-distance desert highway drives. It also features the PARKTRONIC system with a rearview camera to aid in parking the high-stature SUV. Standard electronic stability and traction control systems are specifically tuned to handle the G63's high center of gravity and high power output on both paved roads and loose sand.

The bottom line

This is an ideal opportunity for a buyer looking for the iconic G-Wagon look and V8 soundtrack at a significant value compared to local-spec cars. With its below-average mileage and classic white finish, it stands out as a well-maintained entry into the prestigious AMG lifestyle.
